CITY MANAGER <br />El As Xecommended <br />LI As Amended <br />L) Ordinance on Ist Reading <br />0 Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />Ll Implementing Resolution <br />U Set Public Hearing For <br />3 <br />FILE NUMBER QL_Y__ <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the Mayor and the Clerk <br />of the Council to execute agreements for a one-year period with provision <br />for two one-year renewals in an amount not 'to exceed $200,000 annually <br />for cabling services with: <br />Future Design Communications <br />Syzygy Network Solutions <br />United Contractors Incorporated <br />Vector Resources Incorporated <br />DISCUSSION <br />In fiscal year 1996-97, the City completed the development of a <br />comprehensive information systems strategic plan which includes a <br />significant expansion of the network and computing infrastructure and a <br />plan for data communications connectivity to all City offices. Current <br />needs for services include: cabling 10 fire stations, 11. recreation <br />centers, installation of a fiber backbone in City Hall, upgrading of <br />cable on various floors of City Hall, and installation of telephone and <br />computer cabling to accommodate the expansion of the WORK Center. <br />Implementation of a local area network for the Fire Department will allow <br />computer -aided dispatch to all 10 fire stations and cabling all 11 <br />recreation centers will enhance communi. cations between the centers and <br />with other City offices. The installation of a fiber backbone and <br />bringing cabling in City Hall to data standards are important components <br />of the citywide computer network. New cabling at the WORK Center will <br />accommodate 'the relocation of County Social Services, and the expansion <br />of services provided by the Federal Economic Development Department and <br />045 <br />
