Project plans, <br />Prior to issuance of <br />City of Santa Ana Building <br />grading specifications, and construction permitting shall detail that <br />grading permits <br />Safety Division <br />paleontological resources monitoring shall be required for excavations below <br />20 feet below ground surface (bgs). If deeper excavations continue to <br />encounter younger, Holocene alluvium, monitoring shall be reduced from full- <br />time to part-time monitoring or weekly inspections. If the Qualified <br />Paleontologist determines, based on the Iithologic character of the sediments, <br />that there is very little likelihood of impacting Pleistocene marine sediments, <br />paleontological monitoring shall cease entirely. <br />The paleontological monitor shall collect any identifiable fossils encountered <br />during the excavations. If onsite personnel discover potential fossils during <br />excavations when a paleontological monitor is not present, they shall cease <br />excavation within 50 feet of the discovery and contact the Qualified <br />Paleontologist. Construction activities may resume after the discovery is <br />assessed by the Qualified Paleontologist and appropriate treatment <br />measures have been implemented. <br />Mitigation Measure PALEO-4: Paleontological Resources Treatment and <br />Inclusion in Project plans, <br />City of Santa Ana Building <br />Disposition. Project plans, grading specifications, and construction permitting <br />grading specifications, <br />Safety Division <br />shall require that significant fossils be prepared to the point of identification <br />and construction <br />and cataloged.
