CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br />AVENUE <br />Cables shall be tested at the factory to ensure the cable complies with the specifications. <br />Reels of cable shall be tested for insulation breakdown and continuity prior to <br />installation in ducts. <br />As a post -installation check, the Contractor shall measure the continuity and insulation <br />breakdown of the cable pairs in each length of cable after installation, prior to <br />connection. The Contractor shall measure these parameters on a minimum of two pairs <br />selected by the Engineer. The same pairs shall not be measured on consecutive lengths. <br />The Contractor shall record the reel number from which the cable came, the <br />identification of the pairs measured, and the results of continuity and insulation tests. <br />The Contractor shall carry out system integration testing to ensure that the twisted -pair <br />cables perform as specified when used in operation with equipment installed under the <br />contract. <br />Where splicing is required inside the pull box or splice vault, the Contractor is <br />responsible for supplying the splice kits and all accessories including bond connectors <br />and proper end plates to provide splices as recommended by the manufacturer. Unless <br />noted otherwise, splice kit shall be COYOTE Series manufactured by Performed Line <br />Products, www.preformed.com. All splicing shall be done by the Contractor, the City <br />will supply necessary wiring information or splicing diagram. <br />Individual wire splicing shall be done using weather resistant connector (AMP <br />Picabond Connector. <br />B. FIBER OPTIC CABLE <br />This work consists of installation of Single Mode Fiber Optic Cable per plan. <br />This work shall be in accordance with the Plans, Section 87-19, "Fiber Optic Cable <br />Systems," of the Caltrans Standard Plans & Specifications and these Special <br />Provisions. <br />Each fiber optic cable for this project shall be Corning Cable Systems, ALTOS Lite <br />Gel -Free Cables, Single-Jacket/Single-Armor type, loose tube and contain single mode <br />(SM) dual -window (1310 nm and 1550 nm) fibers as shown on the Plans and shall <br />conform to these special provisions. <br />The drop cables shall be connectorized with SC connectors in the cabinets. This shall <br />require additional aramid strength members in the cable or the use of furcation tubing <br />at the terminus. <br />77 <br />
