CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> SPECIFICATIONS <br /> PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br /> TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br /> AVENUE <br /> 1. Quality Assurance Provisions <br /> Documentation of factory test results shall be provided to the Engineer for approval <br /> prior to shipping. <br /> The attenuation of 100 percent of the fibers shall be tested by the Manufacturer and <br /> certified as satisfying the requirements of this specification. A copy of the test <br /> results for each fiber in the cable shall be provided with each reel of cable. <br /> Attention is directed to"Fiber Optic Testing," elsewhere in these special provisions. <br /> The Contractor shall furnish a Manufacturer's certification that the fiber optic cable <br /> materials proposed for use on this project will meet all applicable special <br /> provisions. <br /> The material shall not be installed in the field prior to the Engineer's approval. <br /> 2. Installation <br /> Installation procedures shall conform to the procedures specified by the <br /> Manufacturer of the specific cable being installed. <br /> Prior to installing the optical fiber cable, the Contractor shall test the cable on the <br /> shipping reel. The Contractor shall submit the manufacturer's recommended <br /> procedures for pulling the fiber optic cable to the Engineer for review and approval <br /> at least 20 working days prior to installing cables. Mechanical aids may be used to <br /> assist cable installation. A tension measuring device or break away swivel shall be <br /> placed between the end of the cable grip and the pull rope,to ensure that the tension <br /> does not exceed 80 percent of recommended tension or 2225 N, whichever is less. <br /> The cable grips for installing fiber optic cable shall have a ball bearing swivel to <br /> prevent the cable from twisting during installation. <br /> The fiber optic cable shall be installed using a cable pulling lubricant recommended <br /> by the fiber optic cable and/ the innerduct manufacturer and a non-abrasive pull <br /> tape conforming to the provisions described under "Conduit" elsewhere in these <br /> p <br /> special provisions. Contractor's personnel shall be stationed at each splice vault <br /> p <br /> andprevent kinking <br /> to lubricate <br /> andpull box through which the cable is to be pulled <br /> g <br /> or other damage. <br /> During cable installation,the bend radius shall be maintained at a minimum of 20 <br /> times the outside diameter of the cable. <br /> Splices shall only be allowed at cable transitions, such as, changes in the size of <br /> cables or at entry points for drop-cables. Splice closures shall be required at every <br /> junction point and at every device being serviced by the fiber optic cable as <br /> indicated on the fiber optic conductor schedules. At each splice closure,all useable <br /> fibers in the cable shall be continuously spliced as indicated on the plans. The end- <br /> 78 <br />
