<br />real estate business, the customary signs to be permitted.

<br />On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Hein!y and carried, the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance
<br />granted to Southland Estates, Inc., to'waive the rear yard require-
<br />ments on property at 1001 West 17th Street, in connection with pro-
<br />posed conversion of existing garage building into a retail d~y clean-
<br />ing pick-up shop, facing West 17th Street.

<br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance
<br />granted to Bert M. Lynn to erect a regular "Union 76" sign on steel
<br />building canopy on service station b~ilding on property at the north-
<br />east corner of Fairview Avenue and Bristol Street, and to place
<br />standard flood-light poles at the three corners within the property
<br />line, subject to the condition that the applicant enter into an agree-
<br />ment with the City, to remove, at no expense to the City, any light
<br />
<br /> poles that encroach upon the setback.

<br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance
<br />granted to Helen F. Casner to use the property at 1016 North Broadway,
<br />for the erection of an office building, subject to certain conditions.
<br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Markel and carried, the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and variance
<br />granted to Beryl Stark Battle to make drapes from customers~ material,
<br />in her garage on.property at 821 French Street, limiting the proposed
<br />use to this particular garage.

<br />On motion of Councilman Markel, seconded by Heinly and carried, the
<br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and vsriance
<br />granted to Santa Ana Board of Realtors to use the existing building
<br />on property at 801-803.North Garnsey Street, for headquarters, no
<br />commercial sales to be made through their office, subject to certain
<br />conditions.

<br />Communication of the Planning Commission was read submitting Reso-
<br />lution No. ?92 recommending the reclassification of property located
<br />on the south side of Edinger Street, 2642' west of Bristol Street,
<br />proposed for a Junior High School Building, from the R-1 to the R-2
<br />District, in accordance with Council initiated amendment, from the
<br />R-1 to the R-2 District. On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded
<br />by Markel and carried, a notice of public hearing was ordered published
<br />setting date of hearing as May 16th, 1955.

<br />On recommendation of the Planning Department and on motion of Council-
<br />man Markel, seconded by Heinly and carried, Tentative Record of Survey
<br />submitted by Lloyd D. Baer, consisting of two proposed lots with 60~
<br />frontage each, sad 127~ deep, located on the west side of Westwood
