Bertelsen~granted to build'a Manager's home <br /> Lot 9 located o-n the east side of Durant Street, half-way between <br /> Washington and 15th Streets, in connection with apartments loc-ated at <br /> <br /> 1323 No. Broadway. <br /> ,, <br /> Communications were read from the Planning Commission recommending <br /> denial of variance application of A.W.~.~elan to construct a two-bedrool <br /> house with an attached garage on the rear of lot at 72~ E. Pine Street. <br /> and from the Department of Public Works that construction of curb and <br /> sidewalk and paving out to existing pavement on Cedar Street is neememi~ <br /> A group of persons stood in pro,est. On motion of Councilman Dahl, <br /> seconded by Markel and carried, the recommendation of the Planning <br /> Commission was approved and variance 8enied. <br /> <br />Communications were read from the Planning Commission recommending the <br />granting of variance to Freedom Newspapers, Inc., to construct a <br />printing and publishing establishment on property at the northeast <br />corner of Sixth Street and Grand Avenue, subject to certain conditionsi!, <br />and from the Department.of Public Works that certain improvements are <br />needed. A petition was presented, signed by ten property owners or <br />residents in the area protesting the granting of the variance for the <br />.reason that said property is in a residential district. On motion <br />of Councilman Dahl, seconded by Jerome and carried, the petition was <br />received and filed. Six persons stood in protest stating that the <br />increase in traffic wou~d be hazardous to their children, would <br />decrease the value of their properties and the district should not be <br />zoned for commercial use. Mrs. Murilyn Caster, 530 No. McClay Street <br />read her protest. Attorney Fred Johnston, on behalf of the applicant <br />stated that the noise from the plant would not be noticeable and that <br />the traffic would not be increased, On motion of Councilman Dahl, <br />seconded by Jerome and carried, the map defining the school district, <br />submitted bM Attorney Johnston, was received and filed. On motion <br />of CouncilmanJ.erome,~econ~ed by Markel and carried, the recommendation <br />of the Planning Commission was approved and the variance granted sub- <br />Ject to all conditions.outlined by the Commission and the Department <br />of Public Works. <br /> <br />On motion of Councilman Heinly, seconded by Dahl and carried, the <br />recommendation of the Planning Commission was approved and the varianci~ <br />of Harold G. Brovm was granted, to permit the construction of a four- <br />unit apartment and a four unit car port on rear of a lot at 1319 French <br /> <br /> <br />
