Please refer to enclosed time line for program implementation (Appendix 1 and 2). <br /> <br />The overall strategy is designed to address the tbllowing risk factors: <br /> <br />COMMUNITY <br />a. Low Neighborhood Attachment <br />SCHOOL <br />a. Academic Failure <br />b. Lack of Commitment to School <br />FAMILY <br />a. Family Management Problems <br /> <br />The objectives of the Santa Ana Community Action Network include the following: <br /> <br />Increase the level of neighborhood attachment by providing opportunities for families <br />to make meaningful contributions to their community and by educating and organizing <br />the community toward the promotion of healthy lifestyles in alcohol and drug <br />environments. <br /> <br />° <br /> <br />Decrease the risk of academic failure by providing early education opportunities, <br />homework assistance and tutoring, opportunities to develop personal skills and <br />competency, and providing opportunities that recognize accomplishments. <br /> <br />Increase commitment to school by providing opportunities to develop bonding with <br />people who demonstxate healthy beliefs and clear standards, to be recognized by peers <br />for accomplishments, and high intensity, alternative programs that empower at-risk <br />youths to master new skills and achieve greater levels of competency. <br /> <br />Decrease family management problems by providing parenting training opportunities, <br />increasing family esteem and bonding, and by involving parents to a high degree in <br />the efforts of their children and their neighborhood. <br /> <br />COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION STRATEGY <br /> <br />Crucial for the success of the prevention strategy is the plan for community mobilization <br />needed to generate community involvement in and responsibility for the strategy. A task <br />force of the Prevention Policy Board will be devoted to finalizing and implementing the <br />community mobilization strategy. <br /> <br />The first goal of the Community Mobilization Strategy will be to maintain a Prevention <br />Policy Board task force for community mobilization targeting the following objectives to be <br />carried out within the second year: <br /> <br />To provide training in community mobilization. This objective will be carried out by <br />Project SABADO and Neighborhood Watch/Community Oriented Policing (SAPD) in <br /> <br /> <br />
