<br />ARTICLE VIII <br /> <br />8.0 OVERTIME <br /> <br />8.1 General Policy for Overtime Work. Whenever it shall be <br />determined to be in the public interest for employees to <br />perform overtime work, or in an emergency situation, the <br />City Manager, the Police Chief, or an authorized <br />representative of the City Manager or Police Chief, may <br />require an employee to perform overtime work. <br /> <br />8.2 Definition. <br /> <br />A. Standard Work Period Overtime. Overtime for those <br />employees assigned to the Standard Work Period shall be <br />authorized or required time worked in excess of those <br />hours assigned to their particular Standard Work Period <br />Schedule workday or hours in excess of 40 hours per <br />Work Period. <br /> <br />B. Alternative Work Period Overtime. Pursuant to this <br />Agreement, employees assigned to the Alternate Work <br />Period shall earn overtime for authorized or required <br />time worked in excess of those hours assigned to their <br />particular Alternative Work Period Schedule workday or <br />hours in excess of his or her Alternative Work Period <br />Schedule hours in a consecutive 28 day, 672 hour <br />period. <br /> <br />8.3 Computation of a Workday and Work Period. Paid leave for <br />holidays, sickness, vacation, and other time off with pay <br />shall be credited towards the total time worked in computing <br />a regular workday, and/or a work period, as defined herein. <br />Work amounting to less than six (6) minutes shall not be <br />considered time worked. Overtime worked for six (6) or more <br />minutes shall be calculated in six (6) minute intervals. <br />Leave without pay shall not be credited towards the total <br />time worked in computing a regular workday, and/or a work <br />period, as defined herein. <br /> <br />8.4 Compensation for Overtime. <br /> <br />A. The preferable method by which overtime shall be <br />compensated is by monetary payment, at one and one-half <br />(1 1/2) times the employee's regular rate of pay. <br /> <br />B. Should the Police Chief determine that the best <br />interests of the City will be served thereby, he or his <br />designee may permit an employee to be compensated for <br />overtime work by earning paid compensatory time off at <br />the rate of one and one-half (1 1/2) times the <br />employee's regular rate of pay. The employee will be <br />credited with time off at the rate of one and one-half <br /> <br />30 <br />
