<br />11. 4 <br /> <br />11.5 <br /> <br />11. 6 <br /> <br />11. 7 <br /> <br />11.8 <br /> <br />United States, or the National Guard, granted <br />temporary leave when ordered to duty, in <br />accordance with the Military and Veterans Code and <br />Section 9-144 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code, <br />will be granted leave with pay not to exceed <br />thirty (30) calendar days in each calendar year <br />after one year's service with the City upon <br />presenting satisfactory proof of orders to and <br />from such temporary active duties. <br /> <br />Jury and Witness Leave. When an on-duty employee is <br />called to serve as a juror or a non-party witness in any <br />court action he or she shall be allowed leave for the time <br />actually required for such service, without loss of pay. <br />Each on-duty employee called for such service shall <br />present to the Police Chief for examination the subpoena <br />calling him or her to such service and shall pay into the <br />City Treasury the fees collected for such service, with <br />the exception of reimbursement for transportation <br />expenses, if any. Refer to Departmental Order 396 - Jury <br />Duty for specifics. <br /> <br />Examination Leave. Employees participating in examinations <br />conducted during their normal working hours for positions <br />in the competitive service of the City of Santa Ana will <br />be granted leave with pay for the time actually required, <br />without loss of any accrued vacation or compensatory time <br />off benefits. <br /> <br />Unauthorized Absence. Unauthorized absence from duty for <br />any duration of time may be considered cause for <br />dismissal. Absence from duty without leave for five (5) <br />consecutive working days shall be deemed a resignation <br />from the service; provided, however, if upon return to <br />duty the person so absenting himself makes an explanation <br />satisfactory to the Police Chief of the cause of his <br />absence, the Police Chief may restore him to his position, <br />with the City Manager's approval. <br /> <br />Authorized Absence Without Pay. Absence without pay not to <br />exceed five (5) consecutive working days, may be <br />authorized by the Police Chief. Absence without pay not to <br />exceed fifteen (15) calendar days may be authorized by the <br />department with the approval of the City Manager. Such <br />absences may be authorized only if in the judgment of the <br />Police Chief they serve the best interest of the City. <br /> <br />Authorized Absence Without Pay - Long Term. Upon receipt <br />of a written request from an employee having permanent <br />status plus action by the Police Chief recommending <br />approval of the request, the City Manager may grant a <br />leave of absence for up to six (6) months. <br /> <br />48 <br />
