— Work Plan 2 -46
off boxes will be provided to indicate condition: satisfactory; poor; in need of repair; in need of
replacement; where possible, the remaining useful life of components will be estimated.
3.2 Structural Assessment: The condition of the site, access road leading to the facility, and
fencing will be assessed from a structural perspective. A structural engineer will visit the site and
inspect support pads, fences, and any other structural components to look for cracks and other
indicators of degradation.
3.3 Mechanical Assessment: The condition of the suction and discharge manifold, valves, and
surge protection will be assessed from a mechanical perspective. A pump specialist will visit the
site and conduct the appropriate inspections. The pump moving parts will not be inspected, nor
their barrels.
3.4 ElectricaUControls Assessment: An electrical engineer will assess the condition of electrical
panels, switch.-car, wiring, controls, and grounding.
3.5 Condition Assessment Memorandum: M &E will prepare a brief memorandum summarizing
the findings of the structural, mechanical, and electrical/controls inspections. The memorandum
will include the field data sheets completed by the inspectors.
3.6 Condition Assessment Presentation: M &E will prepare a presentation of the condition
assessment of the structures, facilities, and equipment at the pump station.
Task 4. Pre - Design Work
Objectives: The data collection and condition assessment tasks will define the system
components that need to be replaced, and the components that need to be repaired or modified.
For each repair /replacement item there will undoubtedly be more than one alternative. The pre -
design work under this task will define the most viable and practical alternatives, evaluate them,
and recommend the combination of components that will cost - effectively provide a reliable
water pumping system.
4.1 Geotechnicallnvestigation /Report: The geotechnical investigation will include the
following subtasks: review of information and permitting, field investigation and laboratory
testing, and engineering analyses and report preparation. Each of these subtasks is outlined
below.
Review oflnformation and Permitting
We will review available published information and information in our files on geological,
geotechnical, and groundwater conditions in the site area. Our review of information will include
published geologic reports and maps of the site vicinity.
Pridr to performing our test borings, we will obtain the required Orange County Department of
Environmental Health drilling permit. We will clear the proposed exploration locations for
underground utilities by contacting Underground Service Alert (USA).
Company ConjidenNal • Trade Secret and Proprietap Information of Metcalf & Eddy, Inc.
