<br />ARTICLE VI <br /> <br />6.0 OVERTIME <br /> <br />6.1 General Policv for Overtime Work. When it shall be determined to be in the public interest <br />for employees to perform overtime work, or in an emergency situation, the City Manager, <br />the Department Head, or a duly authorized representative of the City Manager or the <br />Department Head, may require an employee to perform overtime work. <br /> <br />6.2 Definition. Overtime work for those on a 5140 work schedule is defined as: <br /> <br />A. That authorized or required time worked in excess of the normal workday, tour of <br />duty, or workweek schedule for the particular classification and organizational unit <br />of an employee. A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring period of 168 <br />consecutive hours - 7 consecutive 24-hourperiods - as designated by the appointing <br />authority. An employee's work schedule within the workweek shall not be changed <br />to avoid payment of overtime; provided, however, nothing shall abridge <br />management's right to establish and change work schedules and assignments in <br />accordance with the rights of management contained in Article XX, infra. <br /> <br />B. Work on observed holidays or work on any regularly scheduled non-work day of <br />which there shall be two (2) per week, if work on any regularly scheduled non-work <br />day is worked at management's direction. <br /> <br />63 Computation of Forty (40) Hour Workweek. In computing the forty (40) hour workweek, <br />the following type of work hours shall be included in the computation: actual work time, <br />holiday leave, jury/witness leave, sick leave and bereavement leave. Any combination of <br />these work hours in excess of eight (8) hours per day (except for emplovees on a 4110. 3111.5 <br />plus 1/5.5. or the 9/80 work schedule) or forty (40) hours per week shall entitle the employee <br />to overtime compensation. <br /> <br />However, paid time off for vacation leave, all unpaid leave, compensatory time off, Union <br />President's Leave and Union Business Leave shall not be credited towards the forty (40) hour <br />workweek, unless the employee is required to work by management. <br /> <br />6.4 Compensation for Overtime. <br /> <br />A. The preferable method by which overtime shall be compensated is by monetary <br />payment, at one andone-half(l1/2) times the employee's regularrate of pay, subject <br />to the provisions of Subsection "e" below. <br /> <br />B. Should the Department Head determine that the best interests of the City will be <br />served thereby, he or his designee may permit an employee to be compensated for <br /> <br />29 <br />
