f) The controller shall allow connection to a temperature sensor that provides
accurate site temperatures
g) Controller will have a time of day clock/calendar
h) Active messages, stored messages, message schedules, display configuration,
time and date shall be stored in non-volatile memory. No external power will
be required to maintain this data
i) Controller can be configured with a unique name for the display
j) LED Display Modules
(I) LED modules shall be constructed for clear readability, long life and ease
of service
(2) LED modules shall be factory calibrated for color uniformity
(3) Modules shall be mounted to an internal aluminum frame using hardware
that requires basic hand tools for removal and replacement. Each display
module shall be constructed as follows:
(a) LED module shall consist ofLEDs and drive electronics mounted on
Printed Circuit Boards (PCB)
(b) LEDs shall be Auto inserted to maintain quality and uniformity of
LEDs within each module
(c) All PCBs shall be wave soldered to ensure uniformity, quality and
durability of all solder joints
(d) All PCBs shall be cleaned so as not to contain more than 2 parts per
million contaminants
(e) All PCBs shall be coated to protect electronics against corrosion
(f) LED display module signal and electrical connections shall be quick-
disconnect locking. Removal of a display module from the display
shall not require a desoldering operation
(g) All LED display modules in a single display shall be identical in
construction and interchangeable throughout the display
(h) Module LED uniformity should be consistent so modules can be
interchanged between displays without a noticeable difference in
appearance
(i) Modules shall have louvers for sunlight shading and enhanced
contrast
G) Modules should have a dark potting for additional contrast and
protection ofLEDs
(k) Removal of one or more modules shall not affect the display's
structural integrity
(I) The distance from the center of one pixel to another adjacent pixel
shall be 20 mm both horizontally and vertically
(m)The failure of a single pixel shall not cause the failure of any other
pixel in the display
(4) Discrete LEDs
(a) Pixels shall be constructed with discrete LEDs. LEDs shall conform
to the following specifications:
aa) LEDs shall be flush mount, ultra-bright, solid-state light
emitting diodes
bb) The LED lens diameter shall be 0.2 inches (5 mm). This is
sometimes referred to as aT 1-3/4 style LED package
cc) LEDs shall emit either red, green or blue light such that a true
white is achieved
12
