h) Active messages, stored messages, message schedules, display configuration,
time, and date shall be stored in non-volatile memory. No external power will be
required to maintain this data
i) Controller can be configured with a unique name for the display
j) LED modules shall be constructed for clear readability, long life and ease of
servIce
k) LED modules shall be factory calibrated for color uniformity
I) Modules shall be mounted to an internal aluminum frame using hardware that
requires basic hand tools for removal and replacement. Each display module
shall be constructed as follows:
(I) LED module shall consist ofLEDs and drive electronics mounted on
Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
(2) LEDs shall be Auto inserted to maintain quality and uniformity ofLEDs
within each module
(3) All PCBs shall be wave soldered to ensure uniformity, quality and
durability of all solder joints
(4) All PCBs shall be coated to protect electronics against corrosion
(5) LED display module signal and electrical connections shall be quick-
disconnect locking. Removal of a display module from the display shall
not require a desoldering operation
(6) All LED display modules in a single display shall be identical in
construction and interchangeable throughout the display
(7) Module LED uniformity should be consistent so modules can be
interchanged between displays without a noticeable difference in
appearance
(8) Modules shall have louvers for snnlight shading and enhanced contrast
(9) Modules should have a dark potting for additional contrast and protection
ofLEDs
(10) Removal of one or more modules shall not affect the display's structural
integrity
(II) The distance from the center of one pixel to another adjacent pixel shall
be 20 mm both horizontally and vertically
(12) The failure of a single pixel shall not cause the failure of any other pixel
in the display
m) Pixels shall be constructed with discrete LEDs. LEDs shall conform to the
following specifications:
(I) LEDs shall be flush mount, ultra-bright, solid-state light emitting diodes
(2) The LED lens diameter shall be 0.2 inches (5 mm). This is sometimes
referred to as a T 1-3/4 style LED package
(3) LEDs shall emit either red, green or blue light such that a true white is
achieved
(4) LEDs used in all LED displays provided for this contract shall be from
the same manufacturer and of the same part number
(5) LED halflife shall be a minimum of 100,000 hours
n) The LED modules shall be powered with regulated switching DC power
supplies. Power supplies shall protect the LED pixel, LED display, and driver
circuitry in the event of power spikes or surges
0) Regulated DC power supplies shall conform to the following specifications:
(I) Operating input voltage range: +85 to +264 V AC
(2) Power supply efficiency: 74% minimum
18
