COMMENTS <br />• Asked Jim Ross, Executive Director, Public Works Agency to give <br />an update on the status of street repair projects on First Street, <br />Bristol Street and Warner Avenue. Mr. Ross reported that the <br />estimated completion date for work on First Street was July, 2001; <br />the anticipated completion dates for Bristol Street and Warner <br />Avenue were November 2001 and June 2001 respectively. <br />Councilmember Christy asked that the Public Works Agency <br />continue to provide periodic updates to the public on major street <br />repair projects <br />• Announced that an Artists Village painter, Michael Cunningham has <br />been honored by the State of California for a painting entitled <br />"Afternoon in the Park" <br />Councilmember McGuigan <br />• Noted that she has received calls from several individuals who are <br />frustrated with the service provided by the new cable provider. <br />These individuals are being advised by Adelphia that they can <br />receive channels they previously had, and which were removed <br />without notice, for an additional charge. <br />• Noted that graffiti seems to have recently increased in many areas <br />of the City, particularly in the Wilshire Square neighborhood. She <br />asked the Public Works Agency and Police Department to <br />investigate this situation and increase removal efforts where <br />needed. She also encouraged citizens to call the Public Works <br />Agency hotline 714-647-3380 or 1-877-STOPTAG to report <br />incidents of graffiti <br />Councilmember Bist <br />• Asked Cleve Williams, Executive Director, Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services Agency to give an update on negotiations for <br />the next cable contract. Mr. Williams noted that the current contract <br />expires in June, 2002 and that preliminary considerations for the <br />next contract will begin in two to three months <br />• Noted that the McMain Center on South Main had just completed <br />construction, and it didn't appear that the approved color palette was <br />used for this project; she asked staff to investigate <br />• Supported comments made by Booke Stewart to fund more books <br />for the Library and added that she and Councilmember Alvarez were <br />considering putting together a sub -committee on technology to <br />explore ways to provide greater access to the public through use of <br />computers <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 130 APRIL 2, 2001 <br />
