COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Solorio <br />• Noted that there were many successful events in the schools and <br />community the past weekend commemorating the life of Cesar <br />Chavez. He further noted that on March 31, 2001 there was a <br />celebration at the newly designated Cesar Chavez Campesino Park, <br />which was renamed following City Council approval on March 19, <br />2001 <br />• Announced that he had taken a tour of the new Nexus Twin Towers <br />development in MacArther Place which will open in early summer; <br />he noted that this project will put Santa Ana on the map as a place <br />of commerce and designation for business, entertainment and the <br />arts; he asked staff to work closely with businesses to celebrate the <br />opening of this development <br />Councilmember Franklin <br />• Thanked Mayor Pulido for his leadership in bringing the International <br />Trade Center to Santa Ana; he noted that the center, which opened <br />March 22, 2001 with Governor Gray Davis and Mexico's President <br />Vincente Fox in attendance, will provide more jobs for Santa Ana <br />residents <br />• Thanked Councilmember Bist for her ongoing work with the Williard <br />Neighborhood in efforts to clean and make this area a safer place to <br />live <br />• Reminded residents that the annual Floral Park Home and Garden <br />Tours would be held on April 28-29, 2001 <br />Encouraged residents to adopt pets from the Grand Avenue Pet <br />Shelter on Grand Avenue, south of Seventeenth Street in Santa <br />Ana <br />Asked the City Council to adjourn the meeting in memory of Maurice <br />Lycan who died March 15 , 2001. Mr Lycan was a graduate of <br />Santa Ana High School and Santa Ana College, a member of the <br />Rotary Club, and branch manager of Arden Farms which was <br />located on 4tn Street in Santa Ana <br />• Further asked the City Council to adjourn the meeting in memory of <br />Frank Hilligass, a longtime Santa Ana resident and member of the <br />Kiwanis Club of Santa Ana.
