COMMENTS <br />I Mayor Pulido <br />• Thanked the City Council for its unanimous vote in support of the <br />International Business Center; and announced that the County of <br />Orange was expected to allocate funds to promote activities within <br />the center. He added that Senator Polanco and Governor Davis <br />have indicated that they will support legislation giving the State of <br />California a strong presence within the center. Mayor Pulido noted <br />that negotiations have begun with Santa Ana College to bring the <br />school's California -Mexico Trade Development Center, and two <br />other business centers into the trade building. Additionally, he <br />reported that the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) has <br />expressed interest in housing its International Business North <br />American Development division within the Center. Mayor Pulido <br />expressed confidence that other countries will now start to see the <br />value of what has been accomplished by the development of an <br />International Trade Center <br />• Thanked staff, churches, community organizations, neighborhood <br />associations, citizens and individual Councilmembers who worked <br />on the 2000 census, and noted that Santa Ana, with a population of <br />over 337,000 is still the largest City in Orange County, and had one <br />of the highest census return rates in the country. The City's census <br />efforts greatly benefit the City in obtaining future grant funds <br />0 .
