AGMT NO. 2002-101 & 2002-01A - CENTENNIAL REGIONAL PARK <br />LEASE/OPTION AND JOINT USE AGREEMENTS WITH SANTA ANA <br />UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT <br />Santa Ana Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Al Mijares presented <br />Council with a detailed report on the project. Dr. Mijares explained that <br />currently, four high schools combined serve 12,300 students, which <br />averages over 3000 students at each school. He noted that this figure <br />would be significantly higher in five years and that the high school at <br />Centennial Park was desperately needed. The proposed high school has <br />been designated as a fundamental school focusing on science and <br />technology, will serve grades 9-12, and, is projected to open in 2005 with <br />an enrollment of 2,500. At this time there is no fundamental high school in <br />Santa Ana. <br />Dr. Mijares further outlined the opportunities for joint use and provided <br />details on the recreational facilities that have been specified in the joint <br />use agreement with the City. He stated that the proposed high school will <br />not only reduce over -crowding in the City's high schools but will increase <br />athletic areas as well as provide a performing arts center. <br />The following members of the public spoke on the project: <br />Patricia A.
