COMMENTS <br />Mayor Pro Tern McGuigan: <br />■ Announced that many of the events for the California Police and Fire <br />games (June 16-22, 2002) will be held at Santa Ana venues including <br />Centennial Park, Santa Ana Stadium and Santa Ana College; she also <br />noted that all the athletic events were free <br />■ Congratulated Lorraine Gerard, Century High School teacher, on <br />being selected as one of five Orange County Teachers of the Year <br />■ Noted that the first ordained Catholic priest is a Santa Ana resident <br />who resides in Floral Park <br />• Congratulated Cathy Murphy, who owns two catering firms in Santa <br />Ana, for the recent Orange County Register article detailing her <br />success as a tri-tip cook champion <br />■ Asked the Council to adjourn in memory of Eugene Judd, who was <br />Santa Ana's Fire Chief from 1970 to 1976 <br />Councilmember Bist: <br />• Referenced a Los Angeles Times article relative to the French Park <br />Traffic Plan and asked the City's traffic department to work with the <br />principal of Davis Elementary School to develop a traffic flow plan that <br />would work <br />■ Noted that residents of the Eastside Neighborhood had identified some <br />problems with asphalt work in recent street projects and asked staff to <br />review this issue <br />■ Thanked Jim Ross, Executive Director, Public Works Agency for <br />personally investigating a u-turn matter at 4t' and Birch Street <br />Councilmember Solorio: <br />• Noted that City staff periodically does observe problems with street <br />construction work and that the problems are corrected at the <br />construction company's expense <br />• Announced that the Orange County High School of the Arts season <br />finale was held on June 2, 2002 and that the performances were highly <br />professional and entertaining <br />• Congratulated Evelyn Becktell on her recognition by the "We Give <br />Thanks" organization as a "Woman of Vision" and one of the women <br />leaders in the County of Orange <br />Councilmember Franklin: <br />• Congratulated Kim Sinclair, Environmental and Transportation <br />Advisory Committee member, for her efforts in encouraging residents <br />of Santa Ana to attend composting classes <br />• Thanked Fire Chief Marc Martin and the firefighters at Station 1 for a <br />recent tour of the new temporary living quarters <br />• Asked Chief Martin to provide the Council with a status report on the <br />Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) program <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 216 JUNE 3, 2002 <br />
