If they come <br />regularly, we will know that it is meeting their needs. Student and parent surveys are given to hear from the <br />participants and their parents. Anecdotal stories or testimonies tell us if we are making a difference. <br />FINDING HOPE AND PURPOSE IS MEASURED BY EVALUATING OUR PROGRAM STAFF, PROVIDING <br />ACADEMIC ASSESSMENTS, AND GOAL SETTING ASSIGNMENTS. <br />The Board of Directors provides oversight to ensure that the staff is qualified and effective in encouraging and <br />directing the lives of the teenagers. Pre and Post Tests measure academic progress and provide hope for a <br />better future. As teens listen to other men and women share their life lessons, including overcoming failures, <br />and learn about different professions, students will develop a vision for their future; a pupose. Teens will write <br />down their short-term, intermediate and long-term goals. <br />DECREASING JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AND GANG INVOLVEMENT IS MEASURED BY SURVEY <br />RESULTS AND ANECDOTAL RECORDS OR TESTIMONIALS. One boy shared that he and his friend had <br />joined a gang, then he found the boxing club. He is now winning trophies or belts in boxing, while his friend has <br />been arrested several times. Recently, two boys left the gang choosing to get beat up as a way out. <br />HEALTHY LIFESTYLES IS MEASURED BY NOTING THE PROGRESS IN BOXING SKILLS and in regular <br />attendance. <br />REBUILDING OUR COMMUNITY BY WORKING WITH OTHER AGENCIES Referrals from and to other <br />agencies will be recorded. <br />B) PROVIDE BOXING SKILL INSTRUCTION : 1)Provide certified boxing trainers to instruct teens in the art of <br />boxing M -F 4-8pm. 2)Provide opportunities to compete in boxing tournaments and exhibitions. Serve 50 teens <br />on a regular basis. <br />PROVIDE ACADEMIC TUTORING: 1)Provide a space for teens to work; tutoring area with tables and chairs. <br />2)Provide proper equipment; computers, paper, ink, printers, pens and pencils, a scientific calculator, <br />dictionaries, etc. 3)Provide encouragement with caring tutors. 4)Provide Assessments with pre and post tests to <br />show the students their progress. 5)Enroll 20 more teens in our intensive tutoring program. <br />PROVIDE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: 1)Provide a structured program with regular exercise routines, <br />tutoring times, group discussions and instructions. 2)Provide character lessons taught by Gym Director Anthony <br />Serrano. 3)Provide guest speakers who will get in the ring and share their life experience. 4)Provide caring <br />mentors to listen to the teens and provide direction. 5)Plan and implement community service projects, like our <br />Graffiti Removal Day, Tsunami Relief Project, and Christmas Community Project. 6)Provide 4 speakers a month <br />and 3 community service projects a year. 7)Have regular group discussions as needed and planned. <br />PROVIDE LEADERSHIP AND REHABILITAITON SERVICES: 1)Plan and impliment group excursions or field <br />trips as well as training and attending competitive tournaments; usually 2-3 times a month. 2)Provide drug and <br />alcohol counseling by a certified counsel; Our Director is a certified drug and alcohol counselor. 3)Refer teens to <br />other agencies in the community for services. We work with Taller San Jose, La Familia, the Conservation Corp., <br />Therapeutic Art Center, Ritmo Music Training, Victory Outreach and Teen Challenge. 4)Record referrals and <br />follow up with student and agency. <br />Exhibit A-1 <br />Page 3 of 3 <br />
