Students who are experiencing more serious issues <br />are referred to our on -site director of support services <br />■ Substance Abuse Case Manager runs weekly 12-step support groups <br />for current students and alumni. <br />■ Case Manager for Legal Issues —a former Federal Probation <br />Officer— walks students through the court system to help them <br />address misdemeanors on their records that pose as barriers to <br />employment. <br />■ Track employability standards of punctuality and program attendance <br />Taller San Jose, SAC, 7/2008 6/2009 <br />Program Services ■ Provide 16 weeks of intensive job -training CEC, ROP <br />o Construction- Apprentices acquire essential hands-on skills in <br />the building trades while learning how to adhere to basic <br />employment principles. Led by a Licensed General <br />Contractor and two credentialed vocational instructors, <br />training focuses on the fundamentals and incorporates: safety <br />awareness and training, industry related math proficiency, <br />construction theory, hands-on experience, adherence to <br />attendance policies, mentoring, job coaching, and leadership <br />development. Apprentices participate in two hours of daily <br />math training. Classes concentrate on the algebra, geometry <br />and trigonometry needed for basic construction principles, <br />such as estimating material costs, reading blueprints, rough <br />carpentry, and so forth. Upon enrollment, instructors assess <br />students' math abilities; on average students test at a 6`h grade <br />level. Upon program completion, students experience an <br />average increase of two grade levels.
