(1) The Contractor shall inspect on a daily continuous basis all landscaped <br />areas (turf, trees, shrubs, ground cover, and annual color) for presence of <br />disease, insect, rodent infestation or any other pests. If any pests, such <br />as but not limited to, disease, insect, algae, birds, animals, such as <br />rabbits, squirrels, or rodent infestation (rodents including rats, gophers, <br />moles, voles, etc.) is discovered, it shall immediately be controlled by <br />the Contractor at his/her expense using the safest and most expedient <br />method. <br />(2) The Contractor is responsible for inspecting all plant material on a <br />continuous basis and, as necessary, treating plant material to maintain <br />optimum health of the plants. If any plant material (turf, groundcover, <br />shrubs, trees) dies without the Contractor diagnosing the plant and <br />implementing efforts to restore the plant to a healthy and attractive <br />appearance, the City will assume the Contractor caused the plant death. <br />Contractor will be required to replace the plant with like species and size <br />at no extra cost to the City. City is responsible for cost of replacing <br />plants lost to vandalism; however, Contractor must prove that it was <br />vandalism that killed the plant. In the case where turf is lost due to pest <br />damage, the Contractors shall replace the area of turf lost with Pacific <br />Sod Greg Norman 1 Hybrid Bermuda (during spring/summer) and <br />Pacific Sod Greg Norman 1 Hybrid Bermuda that has been cropped over <br />with Perennial Rye grass (during fall/winter). <br />8. Irrigationystem Maintenance <br />a) General Responsibilities <br />(1) Contractor's Certified Irrigation Specialist shall use automatic or <br />mechanical irrigation systems to irrigate all landscape areas detailed in this <br />Agreement. In the event the existing irrigation system fails to provide full <br />and proper coverage, the Contractor shall provide alternate irrigation with <br />full and proper coverage to all areas in the work site at no extra cost to the <br />City. <br />(2) Newly planted trees, shrubs, ground cover and turf shall receive adequate <br />water to promote normal healthy growth. Proper berms or basins shall be <br />maintained during plant establishment period. <br />b) Operation of Automatic Irrigation Controllers <br />Where the operation of automatic irrigation controllers is required, the <br />Contractor shall: <br />(1) Not duplicate any coded City key furnished by the Parks, Recreation & <br />Community Services Agency for access and operation of the controller. <br />17 <br />
