Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear Mayor Amezcua,
I am writing today not only as a concerned resident of this city but as someone deeply disappointed by your
recent actions —or more precisely, your inactions —during one of the most critical moments for our community.
We are witnessing immense pain, fear, and frustration from those in our city who are basically being hunted for
sport by those unqualified to do so. Instead of standing up for those most affected —those whose voices have
been raised peacefully in protest —you have chosen silence, or worse, antagonism. Your failure to show up,
speak up, and lead with courage has left many of us feeling abandoned by the very person elected to protect and
advocate for all constituents.
What's most troubling is the way you've allowed law enforcement to escalate tension, using aggression against
peaceful protestors —our neighbors, our friends, our youth —who were exercising their constitutional rights.
Tear gas, rubber bullets, and intimidation tactics have no place in a community gathering to demand justice. To
condone such harm, either explicitly or through your inaction, is unconscionable.
While you have finally spoken publicly in support of the residents most impacted, your words felt hollow. They
lacked the empathy, urgency, and emotional weight that the moment demands. Support without compassion is
performative. This community deserved to see a mayor who not only acknowledges their suffering but who
visibly stands in solidarity with them —not one who delivers detached statements as if checking a political box.
Furthermore, your recent conduct toward fellow council members —particularly those who bring dissenting or
critical perspectives —has been dismissive and needlessly combative. We expect discourse from our leaders, not
divisiveness. Being mayor means representing everyone, not just those who agree with you. Leadership requires
more than titles and press conferences; it demands integrity, empathy, and the humility to listen.
I urge you to reflect deeply on the role you swore to uphold. Our community needs a mayor who acts with
courage, not pettiness. Who builds bridges, not walls. Who protects people, not power.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Gray
Ward 6 Resident
