Ordinance No. NS-XXX <br />Page 35 of 47 <br />(58) Personal Services: Establishments providing non-medical services to <br />individuals as a primary use. Examples of these uses include: <br /> <br />a. barber, nail salons and beauty shops <br />b. clothing rental <br />c. dry cleaning pick-up stores with limited equipment <br />d. home electronics and small appliance repair <br />e. locksmiths <br />f. pet grooming with no boarding <br />g. shoe repair shops <br />h. tailors <br /> <br />These uses may also include accessory retail sales of products related to the <br />services provided. <br /> <br />(59) Personal Services - Restricted: Personal services that may tend to have a <br />blighting and/or deteriorating effect upon surrounding areas and which may <br />need to be dispersed to minimize their adverse impacts. Examples of these <br />uses include: <br /> <br />a. laundromats (self-service laundries). Laundromats shall comply with the <br />development and performance standards set forth in Section 41-199. <br />b. massage establishments (licensed, therapeutic) as defined on Section 41- <br />1751 of the SAMC. Massage establishments shall comply with Article <br />XVII.I of Chapter 41 of the SAMC. <br />c. Pawnshops. <br /> <br />(60) Pet day care facility: Establishment offering daily, without overnight, care to <br />a customer’s personal canine or feline pets. Grooming and educational <br />training may be allowed as an ancillary use within the establishment. Does <br />not include veterinary care or treatment, hospitalizations, or long-term <br />boarding of pets. <br /> <br />(61) Planter: The layer of the streetscape which accommodates street trees. <br />Planters may be continuous or individual according to the Thoroughfare and <br />location within the neighborhood. <br /> <br />(62) Podium: A continuous raised platform supporting a building, or a large block <br />of two or three stories beneath a multi-layer block of a smaller area. <br /> <br />(63) Porch: see ‘Frontage Types’ <br /> <br />(64) Primary Use: A primary use is the principal and dominant activity that the <br />business is devoted to, distinguishing it from a secondary or ancillary use as <br />defined in Section 41-13.5 of the SAMC. <br /> <br />(65) Private Frontage: The privately held layer between the frontage line and the <br />principal building facade.
