Zuniga, Diana
From: Mark Wahl <
Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2025 2:46 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Regarding Mayor Amezcua's Response to the ICE Raids.
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana.Use caution when opening attachments or links.
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and anger with mayor Amezcua's response to the federal ICE raids, and
the subsequent police action against peaceful protestors.
I am not a native of Santa Ana. I moved here 17 years ago. In that time period, I've fallen in love with this city. It's
historic beauty, the numerous cultural and artistic opportunities, and most of all,the heart of the community that beats
beneath it all.
When the time finally came where my wife and I were able to purchase a home, there was never another option; it was
always going to be Santa Ana. Our first year living in downtown has been a dream. Last Monday, that dream turned in to
violent nightmare. My wife and I stood in front of our home, and watched as peaceful protestors were met with a
violent response. People who were marching to protect their family, friends, neighbors.
Instead of support from the mayor's office, all there was was silence. And when mayor Amezcua did address the
situation, it was a half hearted apology, poorly written, and rushed through. It was one of the most shameful political
moments I've ever witnessed. Residents who are scared, who are looking for comfort, were instead met with
indifference. This is not an attribute of an empathetic leader.
I've been welcomed with both arms open by this city. And the city of Santa Ana is its people. The people who wake
everyday to work hard and pursue the life that was once the hallmark of the American Dream. Instead of fighting for
those who are too at risk to fight for themselves, Mayor Amezcua stays silent, and by extension, is deeply complicit in
what has happened in our city.
This needs to be addressed immediately. And it needs to begin with the recall for Valerie Amezcua.
Sincerely,
Mark Wahl
i
