It is necessary for the student to be able to turn, flex, and extend his/her <br /> eck. <br /> 14. Feeling—The nurse must be sensitive to heat and cold when assessing clients. <br /> The nurse must be capable of feeling heat, cold, pain and pressure to the self t <br /> rotect himself/herself from personal injury. <br /> 15, Communicating—A majority of the workday requires an average ability to <br /> peak and write in English with a minimum of speech impediments and an <br /> bility to communicate with a wide variety of people while being easily <br /> nderstood. The ability to understand and follow oral, telephone, and written <br /> instructions in English is also a requirement. <br /> 16. Rearing or Listening—A majority of the workday requires an average ability to <br /> ear and correctly interpret what is heard. This not only includes taking verbal or <br /> elephone orders and communicating with clients, visitors, and other members of <br /> he health care team; but also involves the physical assessment of cardiovascular, <br /> ulmonary, and gastrointestinal sounds and the analysis of client monitor alarms. <br /> 17. Seeing—Acute visual skills are necessary to inspect client's conditions such a <br /> kin color, appearance wounds, drainage, infusion sites, etc. Vision is often thd first <br /> ense to detect a change in client status or appropriateness of client's physical <br /> ppearance in comparison with what is normally expected (congruence of behavior <br /> nd appearance, etc.). The nurse also requires good eyesight to read and interp et <br /> harts, reports, and monitor equipment. <br /> 18. Smelling—The ability to detect unusual and/or abnormal odors associated with <br /> wounds, body fluids, body odor, drainage, exudates, and excretions is pivotal t <br /> he physical assessment of the client. <br /> Psych social Wellness <br /> Psychological wellness is required in order to perform nursing tasks and meet program <br /> outcorr es. A psychologically well student is one who can: <br /> 1. Perform activities of daily living <br /> 2. Perform tasks expected of a CNA student <br /> 3, Accept criticisms positively <br /> 4, Maintain calmness during stressful situations <br /> 5.
