Nursing Assistant gaining Program
All students are required to have tuberculosis screening or chest x-ray upon admission to
the program. Tuberculin skin testing using a purified protein derivative (PPD) is done to
detect delayed hypersensitivity reactions in people who have been infected with
mycobacterium tuberculosis. If the test reading is positive, the student is then required a
chest x-ray to rule out active disease and an evaluation from their primary care provider for
approp e first tes reading is negative, no
further t fing is necessary.
STUD NTS WITH PRIOR POSITIVE TB SCREENING TEST
For stu Jents who have documentation of a previous positive PPD, no skin testing is
perforried. However, the student is required to have a health evaluation, symptom
screeni ig, and periodic chest x-ray. Symptom screening review is to be completed ye rly.
SHOR AGE OF TB SCREENING TEST (TST) ANTIGENS
The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) recommends any of the three
general approaches for addressing the shortages of TST antigens:
1. Substitute interferon-y release assay (IGRA) blood tests for TSTs.
2. Allocate TSTs to priority indications, such as TB contact investigations, as
determined by public health authorities. This might require deferment of testis g
some persons. CDC does not recommend testing persons who are not at risk for
TB.
3. Substitute Aplisol for Tubersol for skin testing.
ANTI1 IODY TITERS FOR MEASLES,MUMPS,RUBELLA,AND CHICKEN PO
Antibo ly titers indicate if the student has immunity to certain communicable diseases A
student is required to provide recent (less than two years) laboratory test results indicating
positivu antibody titers to mumps, measles (rubeola), and German measles (rubella). If any
of the titers is negative, the student should get the combined MMR vaccine since single
antigcr vaccine is no longer available in the U.S. The student must submit proof of re ent
MMR mmunization.
A student is also required to provide recent (less than two years) laboratory test results
indicat ng positive antibody titers to chickenpox (Varicella). If the titer is negative, th
student should get a chicken pox vaccine and submit proof of immunization.
IMMI NIZATIONS
A student is required to have all the necessary immunizations required by nursing facilities
before a/she is allowed to attend the clinical site.
COVI -19 VACCINATION and BOOSTER
Students must have COVID-19 vaccination for acceptance into the certified nursing
program.
FLU VACCINATION
Student Handbook 2024 28
*Policy and Procedures are subject to Change*
