ARTICLE VII - TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL 'ASSISTANCE PROGRAM <br /> Section 1.. Purpose. <br /> A. To encourage the employees of the City of <br /> Santa Ana to take college courses and special training <br /> courses which will better enable them to perform their <br /> present duties and prepare them for increased responsibilities. <br /> B. To provide financial assistance to eligible <br /> employees for education and training. <br /> C. To establish eligibility requirements, conditions <br /> and procedures whereby such assistance may be provided. <br /> Section 2. LEligibil'ity. <br /> A. Applications for tuition reimbursement will <br /> be considered only from full-time, permanent City employees <br /> who have completed probation; <br /> B. Reimbursement is not authorized for courses <br /> for which the employee is receiving financial assistance <br /> from other sources such as G.I. Bill, scholarships, etc. <br /> C. Applications will be approved only for courses <br /> directly related to the employee' s job or directly related <br /> to a promotional position in the employee' s occupational <br /> speciality: <br /> D. Courses not ostensibly related to the employee ' s <br /> job, but which are required. to qualify for a degree that is <br /> directly related to his job may be reimbursable only after <br /> all required occupationally-related courses have been completed. <br /> E. Prior to receiving tuition reimbursement, <br /> employees must submit documentary proof of having received a <br /> grade of not less than "C" for the. course. If objective <br /> ratings are not rendered for a specific course, then a <br /> certificate of successful completion must be submitted. <br /> F. Approval will be limited to courses given by <br /> accredited colleges and universities, city colleges or adult <br /> education courses under the sponsorship of the Board of <br /> Education. Workshops, seminars, conferences and similar <br /> activities not identifiable as a formal course of instruction <br /> within the curriculum of -a recognized educational institution, <br /> do not fall within the purview of this program but may be <br /> authorized and funded by the interested department without <br /> coordination with the 'Personnel Department. <br /> -12- <br />
