or disapproval and forward the application to the Director <br /> of Personnel. <br /> C. The Director of Personnel will approve or <br /> disapprove the application for the City Manager. One copy <br /> will be returned to the employee and the duplicate copy will <br /> be retained by the Personnel Department. It is advisable <br /> that the applicant accomplish the procedures so far described <br /> in order to ascertain the eligibility of the intended course <br /> of instruction for reimbursement under the provisions of <br /> this policy prior -to the inception of the course or disbursement <br /> of personal funds. <br /> D. The employee will submit his copy of the <br /> approved application to the Personnel Department within <br /> three months after he has completed the course and received <br /> his final grade. He must include official verification of <br /> his final grade with appropriate receipts for tuition and <br /> textbook costs. These will be returned to the employee upon <br /> request. Applications not submitted to the Personnel <br /> Department within three months following completion of the <br /> course become void. <br /> E. Upon receipt of the application and required <br /> documentation, the Personnel Department will determine <br /> whether the completed course of instruction is compatible <br /> with the provisions of-Sections 2 and 3 of this Article. If <br /> found to be compatible, the Personnel Department will compute <br /> the amount of reimbursement, .authenticate the application <br /> and forward it to the employee' s department head. <br /> F. The department head will then authorize the <br /> Finance Department to reimburse the employee the approved <br /> amount out of the budget of the department concerned. <br /> ARTICLE' VIII - OVERTIME <br /> Section a General Policy for Overtime Work. Whenever <br /> it shall be determined to be in the public interest for <br /> employees to perform overtime work, or in an emergency <br /> situation, the City Manager, the Chief of Police, or a duly <br /> authorized representative otthe City Manager or Chief of <br /> Police, may require an employee to perform overtime work. <br /> Section 2. Definition. Overtime work is defined as <br /> that authorized or required- time worked in excess of the <br /> regular workday and/or workweek except that work amounting <br /> to less than thirty (30) minutes in excess of an employee ' s <br /> regular workday shall not be considered overtime. <br /> -14- <br />
