5 . 3 Bilingual Pay. Qualified employees who meet the following <br /> criteria will be paid a monthly pay differential , above <br /> his or her base monthly salary step, as follows : <br /> A. Assignment by the Police Chief or his designee to a <br /> position requiring bilingual capability in both <br /> English and one of the following languages : <br /> Spanish, Samoan, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Korean, <br /> Hmong or other language designated by the City <br /> Manager; and <br /> B . Certified by the chief personnel officer as having <br /> satisfactorily demonstrated the required level of <br /> fluency in both languages . <br /> C. Street Level Proficiency In Spanish. A Police <br /> Officer or Police Sergeant who successfully meets <br /> the "Street Level Proficiency" requirements set out <br /> in the departmental Spanish training program shall <br /> be paid a bilingual pay differential in an amount <br /> equal to the product obtained by multiplying the <br /> base salary rate being paid to an employee in the <br /> rank of Police Officer at Step "E" by two and one- <br /> half percent (2 . 5%) (five [5] salary rate ranges) . <br /> Employees receiving "Street Level Proficiency" <br /> incentive pay may be required, as a condition of <br /> continued eligibility to receive such incentive <br /> pay, to successfully complete an eight (8) hour <br /> refresher course once every twelve months from the <br /> date of initial certification. <br /> D. Complex Level Proficiency In Spanish. All <br /> employees in the classifications of Police Officer <br /> and Police Sergeant who successfully meet the <br /> "Complex Level Proficiency" requirements set out in <br /> the departmental Spanish training program shall be <br /> paid a bilingual pay differential in an amount <br /> equal to the product obtained by multiplying the <br /> Step "E" base salary rate of Police Officer by ten <br /> (10) salary rate ranges (5 . 00) . <br /> E . All employees in classifications represented by <br /> this Agreement, other than those specifically <br /> described in Subsections C and D above, shall be <br /> paid a bilingual pay differential of one hundred <br /> fifty dollars ($150 . 00) per month after <br /> successfully meeting the requirements for "complex <br /> level proficiency. " <br /> 14 <br />
