ARTICLE VIII <br /> 8 . 0 OVERTIME <br /> 8 . 1 General Policy for Overtime Work. Whenever it shall be <br /> determined to be in the public interest for employees to <br /> perform overtime work, or in an emergency situation, the <br /> City Manager, the Police Chief, or an authorized <br /> representative of the City Manager or Police Chief, may <br /> require an employee to perform overtime work. <br /> 8 . 2 Definition. <br /> A. Overtime for those employees working the 3/12 - <br /> 4/12 work schedule shall be defined as that <br /> authorized or required time worked in excess of the <br /> eighty (80) hours and thirty (30) minutes required <br /> to complete a two week work period or work in <br /> excess of eleven (11 ) hours and thirty (30) minutes <br /> in one day. Work amounting to less than thirty <br /> (30) minutes over the employee' s regular eleven <br /> (11) hours and thirty (30) minutes regular workday <br /> shall not be considered overtime . <br /> B . For all employees, other than those working the <br /> 3/12 - 4/12 Work Schedule, overtime work is defined <br /> as that authorized or required time worked in <br /> excess of the regular workday and/or workweek <br /> except that work amounting to less than thirty (30) <br /> minutes in excess of an employee' s regular workday <br /> shall not be considered overtime . Said thirty- <br /> minute per-day overtime exclusion shall apply only <br /> to employees exempted from coverage under the <br /> overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act <br /> (FLSA) . <br /> A workweek is a fixed and regularly recurring <br /> period of 168 consecutive hours - 7 consecutive, <br /> 24-hour periods - as designated by the appointing <br /> authority. <br /> 8 . 3 Computation of a Workday, Work Week, Work Period. Paid <br /> leave for holidays, sickness, vacation, and other time <br /> off with pay shall be credited towards the total time <br /> worked in computing a regular workday, and/or a work <br /> period, as defined herein. <br /> 8 . 4 Compensation for Overtime. <br /> A. The preferable method by which overtime shall be <br /> compensated is by monetary payment, at one and one- <br /> 24 <br />
