ARTICLE XXII <br /> 22 . 0 LAYOFFS <br /> 22 . 1 A. All layoffs within the competitive service <br /> occasioned by abolishment of a position, the <br /> combination of duties of two (2) or more positions, <br /> or the reduction in numbers of employees in a given <br /> class, shall be governed by seniority in the class. <br /> Reemployment shall be in reverse order of layoff . <br /> B . Any promotional probationary employee laid off <br /> under these procedures, who held permanent status <br /> in a lower class shall retain seniority rights in <br /> the previously held classification provided that it <br /> is still listed in the City' s current basic <br /> classification and compensation plan. <br /> C . Any permanent, full-time employee laid off under <br /> the above provisions may request a demotion to a <br /> position in a lower class provided he/she meets <br /> reasonably related qualifications required for <br /> placement in the class and the position is vacant . <br /> D. Notice of Service . On request, a laid off employee <br /> shall receive a statement certifying that his/her <br /> services have been satisfactory. Layoff shall not <br /> be used in lieu of a disciplinary dismissal . <br /> 64 <br />
