Arts degree from an accredited college with an additional sixty (60) or more <br />educational/training units shall, upon approval of the Police Chief, be designated as a <br />Senior Police Sergeant III and shall be paid fifteen percent (15%) of base pay. <br />6.9 Education Incentive Pay - Non -Sworn. An incumbent in one of the classes designated as <br />"non -sworn" covered by this MOU shall earn an additional amount as follows: <br />A. Upon attainment of an Associate in Arts Degree, employee will be paid at a rate of <br />five percent (5%) above their then current base monthly salary step. For employees <br />hired after July 1, 2017, the pay in this paragraph shall only apply to employees in <br />classifications which do not require a degree. <br />B. Upon attainment of a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree, an employee will be paid <br />seven and one half percent (7.5%) of base pay above their then current base monthly <br />salary step. If the employee obtains a Bachelor's Degree without attaining an <br />Associate in Arts Degree, they will be paid five percent (5%) of base pay. For <br />employees hired after July 1, 2017, the pay in this paragraph shall only apply to <br />employees in classifications which do not require a degree for any employee hired <br />after July 1, 2017. <br />C. Upon attainment of a Masters in Arts Degree, an employee will be paid ten percent <br />(10%) of base pay. This pay is not stacked with the pay in paragraphs A and B <br />above. For employees hired after July 1, 2017, the pay in this paragraph shall only <br />apply employees in classifications which do not require a degree. <br />6.10 Career Development Pay -Sworn <br />Sworn employees hired on or after January 1, 2014 shall be eligible to receive Career <br />Development Pay as follows: <br />A. Level One - Upon attainment of an Associate in Arts Degree employees will be <br />paid five percent (5%) of base pay. <br />B. Level Two - Upon attainment of an Associate in Arts Degree and an additional <br />thirty (30) educational units toward a declared Bachelor's degree, employees will <br />be paid five percent (5 %) of base pay for a total often percent (10%) of base pay. If <br />such employee obtains a Bachelor's Degree without attaining an Associate in Arts <br />Degree, they will be paid ten percent (10%) of base pay. <br />C. Level Three - Upon attainment of a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree employees <br />will be paid five percent (5%) of base pay for a total of fifteen percent (15%) of <br />base pay. <br />The parties agree that to the extent permitted by law, the pay in Sections 6.3 through 6.10 is special <br />compensation and shall be reported pursuant to Title 2 CCR, Section 571(a)(2) and 571.1(b)(2) as <br />Educational Incentive. The City has a system in place to evaluate and approve acceptable courses. <br />However, CAPERS ultimately determines whether any form of compensation qualifies as special <br />compensation. <br />21 <br />
