SA 12‐022
Investigator: S. BERRY #235 Approved By:
Date of Report: October 3, 2012 Date: 10/10/12
Page 2 of 3
•PARIET HERNANDEZ Firefighter Unit T76
•JOHN LOPEZ Paramedic Unit M77
•RYAN TAYLOR Paramedic Unit M77
At approximately 0028 hours, T76 arrived and fire personnel were directed to the
incident location by Santa Ana Police officers on scene.
When CLOUGHEN entered the scene, he noted a male, later identified as MARCELINO
ALMANZA, who was on the ground, supine, shirtless and not cuffed. He noted a lot of blood on
and around ALMANZA and he appeared to be experiencing respiratory distress.
CLOUGHEN made contact with ALMANZA and began to assess his condition. CLOUGHEN
believed ALMANZA suffered gunshot wounds to the right chest, shoulder, arm and a deep graze
to his right deltoid. ALMANZA was uncooperative and refused to answer any of the questions
asked by fire personnel.
At 0032 hours, ALMANZA was placed in the back of a Care Ambulance and transported
to University of California, Irvine Medical Center (UCIMC), located at 101 The City Drive, in the
city of Orange.
While in the back of the ambulance it was learned that ALMANZA did not suffer a
gunshot wound to the chest. ALMANZA was provided supplemental oxygen along with
establishing an intravenous (IV) line in his left arm.
While en route to the hospital fluids were administered to ALMANZAs in order to
increase and stabilize his blood pressure. According to CLOUGHEN, it seemed that once
ALMANZAs blood pressure was elevated and stable, ALAMNZA became more cooperative and
answered their questions.
