The basic program approach for the Success Bound! will be one that utilizes regular bi-monthly
meetings during non-instructional time with participants at their school to maintain an ongoing
relationship with each student by the WIA-funded staff. These meetings will be augmented for many
participants by monthly adult mentor meetings in the local community held outside the regular school
day in collaboration with Career Beginnings of Orange County (CBOC). The program approach will
also include priority access to ROP courses, paid internship/work experience activities during the
regular school year and collaborative leadership/guidance activities delivered during the bi-monthly
on-campus meetings.
With respect to outreach and recruitment, the Success Bound! program will again focus on high school
seniors from the comprehensive, academies and continuation high school programs in the District.
The target enrollment of 30 younger youth (16-18) in an In-School Program reflects the number
successfully served for the past few years. The participants will be recruited in the spring, summer
and early fall of 2010 (please refer to the Recruitment Timetable in the Program Description section
for more specifics). Given the experience gained from previous recruitment processes, the
employment/internship contacts that have been developed serving current program participants and the
collaborative assistance available from the Service Navigator staff at the W/O/R/K Center, we believe
that this objective will be met in a timely manner with 100% of the enrollment goal met during the
second quarter of the contract. It should be noted that the Success Bound! program will operate on the
normal Santa Ana Unified School District calendar so the actual program activities other than
recruitment and enrollment will not begin until the start of the school year in early September, 2010.
As a stand-alone In-School Youth program operating on a traditional school calendar, Success Bound!
recruitment/enrollment activities do not often coincide with those activities of other partners in the
Youth Services Network but when possible, referrals to other providers are given to interested youth.
As a result, this program does not have formal collaborative partnerships in the area of
recruitment/enrollment with other network providers other than the Service Navigator staff at the
W/O/R/K Center.
The above concludes the Executive Summary portion of this application by the Career
Development/ROP Department of the Santa Ana Unified School District to implement the Success
Bound! Program during the 2010/11 school year.
MAIN PURPOSE
As the local public school agency for now over 120 years, the Santa Ana Unified School District's
mission has been to prepare Santa Ana's youth for successful adult lives. As the world becomes more
complex and ever higher demands for knowledge and skills are placed on high school graduates, this
task becomes evermore problematic. The main pumose of the Success Bound! program is to benefit
program participants by providing an array of services to first help them successful) complete their
public school education and then assist them with their transition from high school to the dual spheres
of higher education and the world-of-work.
The length of the Success Bound! program's services and activities will be over an anticipated period
of 8-10 months during the participant's senior year. It will culminate with their graduation in June
2011. The target population for the Success Bound! program are students with identified "at-risk"
factors but students who have not necessarily been previously targeted for any special services or
programs. Success Bound! hopes to serve "average" Santa Ana students who need that "extra push" to
graduate on time and enter the world as a young adult with the tools necessary to be successful in both
their work and educational careers. Success Bound! will have bi-monthly meetings during non-
m
x
10
C
CD
y
it
J
4t
00
3
4
N
w
EXHIBIT A
