Ill. State the Problem <br />A. Describe the problem that you are trying to address. Faced with unprecedented job losses, <br />the US economy needs a new group of skilled workers. It is anticipated that the next cohort <br />of skilled workers in the US will come from disadvantaged communities where many young <br />people have slipped through the cracks of the educational system and lack sufficient literacy <br />and job related soft and technical skills that provide the basis for finding and holding a <br />meaningful job. <br />1V. Barriers <br />A. Identify the population group that you will serve (foster youth, probation_ youth Youth with <br />disabilities, etc.). CCC will serve youth ages 18 -21, most of whom require additional <br />assistance as outlined in B. below. <br />B. Of the youth that your agency will serve, what barriers do they typically face? (Examples <br />basic life necessities, homelessness hygiene high school dropouts transportation novertv__ <br />gang affiliation, education, substance abuse. etc.). Our typical young student often faces <br />one or more of the following barriers: <br />• is from a low income community, <br />• is deficient in their basic math and English skills, <br />• dropped out of HS and earned a GED, <br />• is a young parent, <br />• does not have reliable childcare, <br />• has a family history of welfare dependency, <br />• lives in an unstable living situation, <br />• has not worked or has only done low wage work, <br />• has been in the Foster Care System, <br />• does not have reliable transportation, <br />• lacks technical job skills, <br />• lacks people and life skills, <br />• low computer literacy <br />V. State the Solution <br />Please elaborate on how your agency will solve the problem and barriers? CCC empowers students to <br />realize their potential and begin careers that are personally rewarding, challenging and have growth <br />potential in income and responsibility. We provide high quality technical and life skills training and <br />intensive placement assistance. We provide an opportunity for our.students to gain confidence by <br />setting and accomplishing big goals.
