Schedule the application of a complete fertilizer with an analysis of 15-15-15 at the rate of six (6) pounds <br />per 1000 square feet as often as required, but no less than three times per year, to promote optimum <br />growth and healthy appearance to all shrubs. <br />Ailing or stunted shrubs shall be removed at time of discovery and replaced in kind within five (5) <br />working days. Shrubs requiring additional nutrients to correct deficiencies shall receive such nutrients <br />within three (3) working days of discovery. Contractor shall replace shrub failure that is determined to <br />be due to Contractor's neglect or improper treatment at his expense. <br />1.5. WEEDS, DISEASE, AND PEST CONTROL <br />1.5.1 WEED CONTROL <br />All landscape and hardscape areas within the specified scope of work (including, but not limited to, turf, <br />shrub and ground cover, planters, tree wells, ornamental bark or rock areas, sidewalk, asphalt or <br />concrete areas) shall be kept free of weeds and foreign grasses at all times. The complete removal of <br />all weed growth shall be accomplished on a continuing basis. Weeds shall be controlled by hand and <br />approved mechanical or chemical methods. <br />The transferring of weeds or disease from one infected turf, plant or tree to another turf, plant or tree <br />through improper or faulty maintenance shall be considered Contractor negligence, as determined by <br />the City of Santa Ana. <br />Such negligence includes but is not limited to, non -cleaning or non -disinfecting of tools or equipment <br />and for not isolating the infected area. <br />All affected turf, plant, or tree shall be replaced by Contractor at no cost to the City. <br />Contractor shall continuously control weeds at all sites with both pre and post -emergent chemical <br />control through mechanical methods and/or by hand. It is intended that all sites will be practically weed - <br />free through this process, Weeds determined by the City of Santa Ana to be objectionable shall result <br />in a penalty assessed against Contractor for each affected site. Contractor shall provide the same weed <br />control in cracks, expansion joints and other small openings in the sidewalk/curb area. <br />1.5.2 DISEASE AND PEST CONTROL <br />The Contractor shall regularly inspect all landscaped areas for presence of disease, insect or rodent <br />Infestation. The Contractor shall advise the City of Santa Ana within forty eight (48) hours of when <br />disease, insect, or rodent infestation is found, and the action to be taken. Upon approval of the City of <br />Santa Ana, the Contractor shall implement approved control measures, following all Federal, State, <br />County, and municipal laws, regulations and ordinances required for the approved work. <br />Approved control measures shall be continued until the disease, insect or rodent is controlled to the <br />satisfaction of the City of Santa Ana.
