September 16, 2019
Dear Santa Ana City Council and Mayor:
On August 24, 2019, at the general meeting Artesia Pilar Neighborhood Association voted to
support THRIVE's request for an extension of their Exclusive Negotiation Agreement with the City
for the Walnut and Daisy project.
The Walnut and Daisy Micro -Farm proposed by THRIVE should be recognized as a public benefit
project. Over the past few years the city has expanded its community garden's program. These
gardens have increased in popularity, attendance and benefited the overall wellness of the
participating neighbors. THRIVE's purposed community -driven business and gathering space
aligns with the city's general plan to increase city resident's physical activity, economic growth
and promotion of healthy lifestyles. According to THRIVE, the project will in turn benefit the City
as a whole, not only in direct provision of services and community benefits (a cost -saving to the
City), also in creating a powerful example of resident -driven economic development. At this time,
Al supports any and all cost -saving projects to the city.
THRIVE Santa Ana, is the first community land trust (Cl in Santa Ana, promoting development
based on local needs, vision and participation. Cl are an innovative solution for strengthening
the economy throughout the US,'especially in neighborhoods of need. APNA recognizes Thrive
Santa Ana as an important and positive community -based organization who helps promote self -
empowerment and community wellness.
Our membership kindly request that you please approve the extension of THRIVE's Exclusive
Negotiation Agreement, and direct staff to work together with THRIVE to draft a DDA that leads
to CLT ownership of the land. Approval will allow more time to finalize site plans, provide proof of
ability to obtain financing for the project and negotiate a disposition and second Exclusive
Negotiation Agreement THRIVE Santa Ana, Inc.
Sincerely,APNA Board Member
apneighborhood@gmail.com
(
0
