Edison Park Renovation
Huntington Beach, CA
Project Completion: In Progress
Project Size: 38 acres
Design Cost: Master Plan $ 60,000
Construction Docs $ 2.5M
Construction Cost: Estimated $ 22M
Client Reference
Chris Slama
Director of Community & Library Services
City of Huntington Beach
2000 Main Street
Huntington Beach, CA92648
(714) 536-S49S I cslama@surfcity-hb.org
Project Summary
Edison Park site was originally utilized as a gravel pit in the 1950's, then as a refuse disposal site
in the 1960's. Years later, the disposal site was capped and the City of Huntington Beach turned
the 38-acre area into a sports park with a small community center. After more than SO years, the
site settled which caused significant damage to various areas of the park and resulted in drainage
complications.
RJM was retained by the City of Huntington Beach to work with the community and develop a
new re -envisioned park site that would be feasible within the constraints of developing on top
of a landfill site. The resulting plan includes new tennis/pickleball courts, (4) full court basketball
courts, (4) half court basketball courts, a pump track, enlarged skate spot, reconfigured batting
cages, expanded ballfields and soccer fields, new park restrooms and concession stands, picnic
tables, and reconfigured walkways.
hill
Project Team
Principal: Zachary Mueting GROUP
Project Manager: Tamara McClory & Andrew Steen M
City of Santa Ana • On -Call Landscape Architectural Services 113
