SCIT Catalog <br />FINANCIAL AID <br />GENERAL INFORMATION <br />In today's society any education after high school will cost time, <br />money and effort. The SCIT Financial Aid Office is committed to <br />providing students and their families with the financial resources <br />they need to finance their education and ensure access to their <br />academic goals. SCIT is an eligible institution participating in <br />federal financial aid programs. Financial aid Is available to those <br />who qualify. The U.S. Department of Education has approved <br />Southern California Institute of Technology for participation in the <br />following programs: <br />• Federal Pell Grant <br />Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) <br />• Federal Direct Subsidized Loan <br />• Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan <br />• Federal Parent Loans to Undergraduate Students (PLUS) <br />• Federal Work Study(FWS) <br />Southern California Institute of Technology also participates In the <br />following programs provided by the State of California, contingent <br />on the institutions current eligibility status: <br />• Cal Grant <br />• Cal Grant B <br />• Cal Grant <br />Please Note: The stated financial aid guidelines and procedures <br />may be a combination of constantly changing federal and state <br />regulations. For information regarding the current changes and <br />eligibility status of the institution, please contact the SCIT <br />Financial Aid Office. <br />FINANCIAL AID ELIGIBILITY <br />Eligibility for most financial aid programs is based on financial <br />need and several other factors. Your eligibility Is determined by <br />the information you provide on the Free Application for Federal <br />Student Aid (FAFSA). Basic eligibility requirements include the <br />following: <br />• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non -citizen; <br />• Be enrolled as a regular student working toward a degree or <br />certificate In an eligible program; <br />• Maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress; <br />• Not owe a refund on a federal grant or be In default on a <br />federal educational loan. <br />Non -citizens are required to verify eligibility with the Financial Aid <br />Office. Students who are required to register with Selective <br />Service must be registered in order to receive financial aid. <br />Since it is important that you understand the available financial <br />aid programs and your rights and responsibilities under them, the <br />U.S. Department of Education has prepared a brochure entitled <br />THE GUIDE TO FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID PROGRAMS, which <br />explains these federal programs. You may obtain a copy of this <br />booklet from the Financial Aid Office. <br />APPLICATION PROCEDURE <br />The first step in applying for financial aid is to complete the Free <br />Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application must <br />be completed every award year and may be completed online at <br />fafsa.ed.gov. FAFSA worksheets are available from the Financial <br />Aid Office to assist students prior to completing the application on <br />the web. In addition to completing the FAFSA, students may be <br />required to submit other supporting documents. The supporting <br />documents vary according to a student's particular situation. For <br />more information, contact the Financial Aid Office. The FAFSA and <br />other documents are reviewed by the Financial Aid Administrator <br />to determine the student's eligibility. The Financial Aid <br />Administrator will review available funds and discuss financial <br />options with the students to finance their education. <br />FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE <br />FEDERAL GRANTS <br />Federal Pell Grant (FPELL) <br />Pell Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and do not <br />have to be repaid. They are provided by the federal government <br />and are awarded to students who demonstrate the greatest <br />financial need and have completed their financial aid application. <br />FedbraLSup#mental EducaHonaLOpooitunity Grant (FSEOG) <br />Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants are awarded <br />on the basis of financial need and do not have to be repaid. They <br />are provided by the federal government and are awarded to <br />students who demonstrate the greatest financial need and have <br />completed their financial aid application. It is usually available <br />only to those students who also qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. <br />CALIFORNIA GRANT PROGRAMS (CAL GRANT) <br />Cal Grants are grants provided by the State of California for <br />qualified educational institutions. Due to the need for educational <br />institutions to recertify eligibility to receive Cal Grants, please <br />check with the SCIT Financial Aid office for the current awards <br />available. Applicants must apply for the Cal Grant by published <br />deadlines. <br />Cal GrantA <br />Cal Grant A awards can be used for tuition and fees. Applicants <br />must be working toward a two-year or four-year degree. <br />Cal Grai <br />Cal Grant B awards provide low-income students with a living <br />allowance and assistance with tuition and fees. The minimum <br />course length is one academic year. <br />Cal Grai <br />Cal Grant C awards help pay for tuition and training costs at <br />occupational or career colleges. To qualify, you must enroll in a <br />vocational program that Is at least four months long. Funding is <br />available for up to two years, depending on the length of your <br />program. <br />LOANS <br />Federal DirectSubsid/zed Loan <br />This program is a low interest rate, long-term loan program for <br />undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need.
