In Re Condition of C~vpress Avenue. In Re Application M. R. Kellogg. In Re Petitions for Civil Service Police & Firemen. In Re Park Sites. such claimed danger and the City Engineer proceed at once to prepare estimates and a general plan for temporarily minimiz- ing any claimed dangers and improving the present existing conditions and submit same to this Council at our next meeti~ # On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Bruns and carried, the protests of residents on Cypress Avenue between St~ Andrews and Delhi Road, against the condition of said street was referred to the Street Commissioner and Engineer to give them some relief. # On motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Smith and carried, the request of M. R. Kellogg for permission to widen his driveway nine feet on Santa Ana Boulevard near Roe Drive for his auto camp, was referred to the Street Commissioner and City Engineer to investigate and report back at the next meeting of the Council. The City Clerk's certificate showing that more than fifteen percent of the qualified~lectors of the City of S~nta Ana, as required by law, were affixed to the petitions requesting the passage of an Ordinance placing police and firemen under Civil Service, was read. The motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Penn, to adopt the Ordinance placing police and firemen under Civil Service, wag amended by a substitute motion of Trustee Layton, seconded by Smith and carried, that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary Ordinances and Besolutions to call a special election at the earliest possible date, to submit this Civil Service Ordinance to the people of the City of Santa Aha. Roll Call: Ayes, Trustees Joseph P. Smith, Ernest H. Layton, Fred C. Rowland. Noes, Trustees Plummer W. Bruns, W. H. Penn. Before the vote was announced Trustee Bruns and Penn requeste~ and obtained permission to change their vote from"No"to"Aye!' so as to make the vote unanimous. The Mayor announced a unanimous vote. . A motion was made by Trustee Layton, seconded by Bruns, that the City Purchasing Agent be instructed to negotiate for a purchase price on approximately ?~ acres of real property- lying west of and contiguous to the northerly portion of t~e five acre City Recreational Bowl att Flower Street between Sixth and Eighth Streets, and to report the bast price obt~in~ able at the first meeting of this Council after hs has obtained such information.
