Refrig. <br />COo <br /> <br />In Re <br />{equest <br />{alph Simco Jr. <br /> <br />In Re <br />Taxicab <br />Applications <br /> <br />! <br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, <br />communication from Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. was receive <br />filed and check in the amount of $94,327.09 covering franchise <br />payment for year ending 0ctober 12th, 1948, was ordered deposited <br />in the General Fund. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried, <br />notifications of the State Board of Equalization of alcoholic <br />beverage applications made by Ancilla and Victor Brandalise, 1440 <br />So. Main St., and Ivan L. Brooks and Srwin H. Curry, 616 E. 4th <br />St., were received and filed. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Cheney and carried, the <br />application of Cancer Prevention Society to solicit funds was <br />referred to City Attorney to check with Business Men's Associatio~ <br />to ascertain if it is a bonafide organization and to report back. <br />A petition was read signed by seventy-four property owners and <br />residents in the vicinity of Fourth and Olive Streets protesting <br />against the Junk business being conducted by Bascom Rush at the <br />northwest corner of Fourth and Olive Streets. Mrs. Cora Sowards <br />appeared before the Council protesting against this type of <br />business. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and <br />carried, Chairman was authorized to appoint a committee to invest- <br />igate as to type of business and report back. Chairman appointed <br />Trustee Chamxiler, City Attorney, Planning Consultant and Building <br />Inspector on this committee. <br /> <br />Communication was read from Toastmasters International requesting <br />extension of existing lease for another five years and option on <br />balance of rooms at the Community Center. On motion of Trustee <br />Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, communication was <br />received~ filed and Clerk instructed to notify Secretary that <br />lease is effective for approximately two more years and that <br />negotiations will be entered into prior to expiration of such <br />lease. <br /> <br />Communication was read from Mrs. Kate Ross requesting that acacia <br />tree in the parking at 831 So. Birch St. be removed, and on motion <br />of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, communication <br />was received~.and filed as tree has been removed. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, request <br />of Orange County Refrigeration Co. for a change of parking zone <br />from no parking to a loading zone at 302 E. §th St., was referred <br />to Trustee Cheney and Engineer for investigation and report back. <br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, <br />request of Ralph Simco, Jr. to place a pop-corn cart on the side- <br />walk on North Main St. at 4th, in front of the First National Bank <br />or at the CUrb, was denied. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, <br />applications of Marvin Reichler, Fred Devenney and George W. Kidd, <br />to drive taxicabs were g~anted and permits ordered issued. <br /> <br /> <br />
