<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried,
<br />recommendation of Chief of Police was approved and communication
<br />received and filed.
<br />
<br />Copy of communication from Planning Engineer addressed to Civil
<br />Service Board, was read, advising of certification of Collis
<br />Sutherland to position of Planning Draftsman, effective March
<br />8th, 1948.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried,
<br />recommendation of Planning Ehgineer was approved and communica'
<br />received and filed.
<br />
<br />Copy of communication from Acting Fire Chief addressed to Civil
<br />Service Board, was read, advising that Captain M.C.Moore will
<br />retire March 1, 1948 and Engineer L.C.Ausmus will begin pro-
<br />bationary period, as Captain, on that date; Jesse Haddock was
<br />appointed probationary Engineer and Ralph Ege was selected to
<br />position as hoseman to fill vacancy created by Haddock~s promotio~
<br />Albert Garthe, mechanic, and Don Garrett, hoseman, have completed
<br />their probationary periods and recommended their permanent
<br />appointments.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried,
<br />recommendationsof Acting Fire Chief were approved and communicatic
<br />received and filed.
<br />
<br />On recommendation of the City Engineer and on motion of Trustee
<br />Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, the bond of O'Brien & Bell
<br />Construction Co., covering the improvement of West First Street,
<br />from the west City limits to Artesia St., was ordered released as
<br />
<br />of March 8th, 1948.

<br />Request of J.C.Kuyper, 414 No. Patton St., for loading zone was
<br />read and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and
<br />carried, matter was referred to Trustee Cheney and City Engineer
<br />for recommendation and report back.

<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and ca~ried, agreemez
<br />between City of Santa Ana and Fred J. Devenney to construct
<br />electric sign at 2148 So. Main St., which extends over the 7 foot
<br />set-back line, was referred to Building Inspector for checking and
<br />to report back.

<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Cheney and carried, report
<br />of Police Dep~ tment and Juvenile Bureau, for the month of Feb.
