<br />munication of the Planning Commission advising of the resignation
<br />of Nylin P. Hurd, as a member of the Planning Commission, was ro-
<br />cefved and. f~led, and resignation accepted with regrets.
<br />Cor~munication from the City Library Board was read opposing the in.
<br />cluslon of the L~brary employees under Civil Service. 0pin~on of
<br />City Attorney was read stating that Library employees are under
<br />Civil Service, and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by
<br />Cheney and carried, communication from the Library Board was re-
<br />ceived and filed, and City Attorney was instructed to send copy.

<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, com.
<br />municet~.on of Conrad J. Hanson, Resident [~anager of Casa De Santa
<br />Ana, requesting playground equipment at the public housing project
<br />was received and filed. On motion of Trustee ~andy, seconds8 by
<br />Reed and carried, the request was denied for the reason that the
<br />City does not receive sufficient income from the project for such
<br />ourchase,

<br />On motion of Trustee ~andy, seconded by Cheney and carried, the
<br />application of J. P. Gammel, Jr. for permit to start a Funeral
<br />Escort Service was.referred to a Committee for recommendation and
<br />report. Trustee Nandy and Chief of Police Hershey were appointed
<br />as the Committee.

<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, request
<br />of Evelyn Murphy for one week leave of absence in the month of
<br />June was granted ~ithout pay, subject to the aporoval of the Civil
<br />Service Board.

<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Reed and carried, copy
<br />of communication from Dale Gr~ggs, Park Superintendent, on the
<br />selection of Kenneth Shepard as laborer in his department, effecti~
<br />April l~, was received and filed, and appointment approved subject
<br />to Civil Service Board.

<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by ~andy and carried, the
<br />request of Glenn C. Bailey to place six columns of masonry con-
<br />struction at certain corners in his subdivision in the southwest
<br />part of the City, was denied, as advertising of this nature is
<br />illegal.
