<br /> Clerk was authorized to advertise for bids for the purchase of
<br /> one 300 gallon per minute at 65 P.S.I. pump to be used in
<br /> conjunction with chlorination equipment, at the Joint Outfall
<br />
<br /> Sewer; bids to be opened August 2nd, 1948,

<br /> On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the
<br /> Clerk wam authorized to advertise for bids for the sale of sludge
<br /> produced at the treatment plant of the Joint Outfall Sewer; bids
<br /> to be opened August ~nd, 194@.

<br /> Communication was read from Mrs. Susie Fulton relative to rat
<br /> situation in City and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by
<br /> Cheney and carried, communication was received, filed and copy to
<br /> furnished Trustee Reed for investigation and report back.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried, request
<br /> of Chief of Police for permission to leave the State from July
<br /> 16th to July 31st, 1948, inclusive, was granted.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Chandler and carried,
<br /> resignation of W.S.Evans, Patrolman, effective July 7th, 1948,
<br /> was approved subject to Civil Service Board.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from Chief of Police advising of pro-
<br />bationary appointment of Vernon V. Adams, patrolman, effective
<br />July Sth, 1948, and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by
<br />Reed and carried, appointment was approved subject to Civil
<br />Service Board.
<br />
<br /> On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, request
<br /> of W. FtNielsen, Lt. of Traffic, for twelve days sick leave to be
<br /> taken in addition to fifteen days vacation beginning August 1st,
<br /> 1948, was approved, subject to Civil Service Board.

<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried,
<br />request of J.J. Hansen, Fire Marshal, for ninety days siek leave
<br />beginning July 9th, 1948, was granted, subject to Civil Service
<br />Board,
<br />
<br />On recommendation of Acting Fire Chief and on motion of Trustee
<br />Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, David H. Smith was appointed
<br />to position of Fire Marshal to fill vacancy created by leave of
<br />
<br />J. J. Hans an.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Chandler and carried,
<br />John Garthe was appointed Fire Chief, probationary period to be
<br />effective July 18th, 1948.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, request
<br />of State Blind Shop for permission to solicit in Santa Ana, was
<br />tabled until July 19th, 1948.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried,
<br />the following Resolution entitled:
<br />
<br /> "Resolution of the City Council of the City
<br /> of Santa Ana approving second supplemental
<br /> memorandum of agreement for expenditure of
<br /> 1/4 cent gas tax allocated for State Highways"
<br />
<br />for the fiscal year 1948, was read, considered, designated
<br />Resolution No. 3681 and passed by the following vote:
