Woods, U.SoMarine <br /> <br /> Corps, commending Chief of Police Hershey and his department for <br /> <br /> efficient and expedient performance of duty, and on motion of <br /> <br /> Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried, communication was <br /> <br /> received and filed. <br /> <br /> Communication was read from City Engineer requesting clarification <br /> <br /> of Minute Order passed Feb. 2nd, 1948 relative to purchase of <br /> <br /> equipment, and on motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Chandler <br /> <br /> and carried, matter was held over until next meeting. <br /> <br /> Communications were read from City Engineer and Garage Superintend. <br /> ent relative to rates of pay of the laborers in the Street Depart- <br /> ment and Garage Department after six months service, and on motion <br /> of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carrieS, matter was <br /> <br /> referred to Attorney for clarification and recommendation. <br /> <br />Communication was read from Sanitary Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co., <br /> <br /> requesting that loading zones be established at 510 Bush and 109 <br /> <br /> W. 8th Sts., and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney <br /> <br /> and carried, matter was referred to Trustee Cheney and Engineer <br /> <br /> for investigation and report back. <br /> <br /> On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Cheney and carried, reques~ <br /> <br /> of P.E.Fuller and G.G.Lamkin for permission to conduct pool hall <br /> <br /> at 403 W. 4th St., was referred to Trustee Mandy and Chief of <br /> <br /> Police for recommendation and report back. <br /> <br /> On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Cheney and carried, the <br /> <br /> application of Trino C. Castro to drive taxicabs was granted and <br /> <br /> permit ordered issued. <br /> <br /> A petition was read signed by four property owners in the vicinity <br /> of the City Pound requesting that Pound should not be increased in <br /> size and me~u~t,i~m~ that Council make provision for removing same <br /> to another location. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by <br /> Mandy and carried, matter was referred to City Engineer to determi~ <br /> <br /> cost of moving and enlarging the Pound. <br /> <br /> The Clerk read communication from Secy. Planning Commission denyin~ <br /> <br /> variance application of H.H. & Ila Huyler. Mrs. Chandler, <br /> <br /> Mrs. Connell and Mrs. Coons appeared before the Council in favor <br /> <br /> of application for variance of Mrs. Huyler to convert rooming house <br /> <br /> into professional office building. On motion of Trustee Mandy, <br /> <br /> seconded by Cheney and carried, committee was appointed of all <br /> <br /> members of the Council to make investigation of the property and <br /> <br /> report back at the next meeting. <br /> <br /> On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, the <br /> <br /> recommendation of the Planning Commission granting a variance to <br /> Fred J. Devenney to reduce the front yard requirement on certain <br /> lots in Tract No. 1297, being bounded by Broadway on the east and <br /> Anahurst Place on the north, applying to all lots excepting those <br /> fronting on Broadway and Lots S and 16 on Birch Street, was <br /> <br /> approved and application granted. <br /> <br /> <br />
