Woods, U.SoMarine Corps, commending Chief of Police Hershey and his department for efficient and expedient performance of duty, and on motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried, communication was received and filed. Communication was read from City Engineer requesting clarification of Minute Order passed Feb. 2nd, 1948 relative to purchase of equipment, and on motion of Trustee Cheney, seconded by Chandler and carried, matter was held over until next meeting. Communications were read from City Engineer and Garage Superintend. ent relative to rates of pay of the laborers in the Street Depart- ment and Garage Department after six months service, and on motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carrieS, matter was referred to Attorney for clarification and recommendation. Communication was read from Sanitary Laundry and Dry Cleaning Co., requesting that loading zones be established at 510 Bush and 109 W. 8th Sts., and on motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, matter was referred to Trustee Cheney and Engineer for investigation and report back. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Cheney and carried, reques~ of P.E.Fuller and G.G.Lamkin for permission to conduct pool hall at 403 W. 4th St., was referred to Trustee Mandy and Chief of Police for recommendation and report back. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Cheney and carried, the application of Trino C. Castro to drive taxicabs was granted and permit ordered issued. A petition was read signed by four property owners in the vicinity of the City Pound requesting that Pound should not be increased in size and me~u~t,i~m~ that Council make provision for removing same to another location. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried, matter was referred to City Engineer to determi~ cost of moving and enlarging the Pound. The Clerk read communication from Secy. Planning Commission denyin~ variance application of H.H. & Ila Huyler. Mrs. Chandler, Mrs. Connell and Mrs. Coons appeared before the Council in favor of application for variance of Mrs. Huyler to convert rooming house into professional office building. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Cheney and carried, committee was appointed of all members of the Council to make investigation of the property and report back at the next meeting. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission granting a variance to Fred J. Devenney to reduce the front yard requirement on certain lots in Tract No. 1297, being bounded by Broadway on the east and Anahurst Place on the north, applying to all lots excepting those fronting on Broadway and Lots S and 16 on Birch Street, was approved and application granted.
