That the following set forth specifics- <br />lions shall be the standard specifications for Cast Iron to be <br />used in all street work in the City of Santa Aha, and shall be <br />known as "Standard Specification No. 16", as follows, to-wit: <br /> <br /> CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />STANDARD SPECIFICATION NUMBER 16. <br /> <br /> Cast Iron. <br /> <br />S~CTION 1. · <br /> A[I iron castings shall be made from iron of ~ood quality, remelted in the cupola ne air <br /> furnace, without admixture of cinder iron or other inferior metal Iron castings ~ be <br /> tough and of even grain, free from scales, cracks, holes, swells, lumia and cold shuts and <br /> must conform to the dimensions shown on the plans. <br /> <br /> The quality shall be such that a blow from a hammer will produce an inden~io~ on <br /> a rectangular ed_ge of the casting without flaking the metal. <br /> <br /> Before leavi~4r the foundry all castings shall be thoroughly cleaned and ~ubjected to a <br /> hammer inspection after which they shall be dipped twice in coal tar pitch v~aiah ~e-i <br /> vinusly heated to a tempertture between two kundred ninety (290) degrees and ~r <br /> hundred ten (310) degrees Fahrenheit. The varnish shall be made from coal tar, with <br /> suffzcient oil added to make a smooth, firm, tenacious coat/rig without any tendency to scale <br /> off.
