tamped until the concrete is compacted. The surface of the concrete must be smooth and <br /> uniform and shall be tested for grade with a guage notched at each end and extending <br /> one-haft (~) inch below the tops of the side forms. <br /> <br /> (e) WEARING SURFACE AND FINISH. The finish mortar shall be applied <br /> within thirty (~0) minutes after the concrete has been placed, and thoroughly troweled in. <br /> Sufficeint mortar shall be used to produce a wearing surface not less than one-half (~) <br /> inch in thickness at any place. The surtace shall then be troweled, retroweled, jointed or <br /> marked into squares, and polished. Between grade changes, the finished walk shall show <br /> an even, true surface varying less than one-fourth (~) inch from a five ($) foot straight <br /> edge. <br /> (0 M~ARKING. For sidewalks five (5) feet in width, the surface shall be jointed <br /> or marked into two and one-half (2~) foot squares. For other widths of sidewalk, the <br /> squares shall not be larger than ten (10) square feet in area. <br /> (g) CONSTRUCTION JOINTS. Construction ~oints shall be placed on the produced <br /> property lines at returns, and at intervals of twonty (20) feet therefrom, unless otherwise <br /> specified. The joints shall be made by setting one-fourth (~) inch steel plates in a vertical <br /> position at right angles to the walk, and withdrawing them after the concrete has been <br /> tamped into place. <br /> (h) CONTRACTOR'S NAME ON SIDEWALK. The Contractor shall stamp his <br /> name in the sidewalk at intervals of not more than one hundred (100) feet. The letters <br /> shall not be elss than three-fourths (~) inch, nor more than one and one.half (1~) inches <br /> in height and impressed to a depth of one-fourth (~) inch. <br /> (i) PROTECTION AND CURING. Sidewalk shall be protected by barriers and <br /> when the concrete has attained its initial set, the sidewalk shall be covered with earth <br /> to a dpeth of two (2) niches and watered twice daily for ten (10) days. <br /> (j) REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTS. The Contractor shall repair all curbs and <br /> walks damaged by him during the construction of sidewalk. Where any sidewalk requires <br /> repair before acceptance, the rep.ah-~shall be made by removing and replacing entire sections <br /> and not by refinishing the damaged portion. Where the plans provide for reconstruction <br /> of existing sidewalk and the limit of new work specified does not fall on a scoring line, <br /> entire sections shall be removed and new sidewalk shall join existing sidewalk at the first <br /> scoring llne beyond said specified limit. <br /> <br />8~CTION 3. CONCRI~TI~ GUTTERS. CONSTRUCTION, <br /> Concrete ~ltters shall be constructed upon a dampened subsrade prepared and ~uaged <br /> as hereinbefore specified. <br /> (a) FORMS. If wooden, ~utter forms are used, they shall be not less than one and <br /> three-fourth (1~) i~ches in thlcimcss and shall extend to the full depth oI the ~utter. They <br /> shall be sound lumber, having a smooth straight upper edge. Unless otherwise specified <br /> on the plans, the cro~s slope of all ~utters except cross ~utters shall be one (1) inch for a <br /> width of one (1) foot~ one and one-half (1~) inches for a width of two (2) feet and two (2) <br /> inches for a width of three ($) feet. Cross ~uilers shall be constructed with thc center <br /> one-half (~) inch below a straight edge resting on each side, unless otherwise specified. <br /> Forms for the outer face of the gutter shall be placed parallel with the face of the curb. <br /> (b) THICKNESS. All concrete gutters at curb returns, between the produced side <br /> lines of intersecting streets, and to the end of the curve, where the curve extends beyond <br /> said produced lines, and concrete gutters across street or alley intersections, shall be eight <br /> (8) inches in thickness, unless otherwise specified. The thickness oI concrete gutters at <br /> all other places shall be five (5) inches, unless othrwise specified. <br /> PLACING CONCRETE. Concrete shall be spread find guaged to such a thickness <br /> that when taml~ed and finished the thickness shall be, at any point, not less than specified. <br /> Thc concrete shall be tamped until its surface is covered with sufficient mort~ to permit <br /> of finishing. <br /> <br /> <br />
