CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br />AVENUE <br />3.00 SPECIAL PROVISIONS - TRAFFIC CONTROL <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />Street closures, detours, signs and barricades used for handling traffic shall conform to the <br />requirements of latest edition of the "Work Area Traffic Control Handbook" (WATCH), <br />City of Santa Ana Standard Plan No. I I25F, California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control <br />Devices (CA MUTCD), and these Special Provisions. <br />Traffic control plan must be submitted and approved before starting work on any public <br />street, except for the following temporary closures: <br />Temporary single lane closure on 4 or 6-lane arterials can be done per WATCH <br />handbook without submitting traffic control plan. <br />Temporary two lanes closure on 6-lane arterials may be done per WATCH <br />handbook without submitting traffic control plan. However, this will require prior <br />approval from Traffic Engineer. <br />Temporary closure of local streets may be done per WATCH handbook without <br />submitting traffic control plan. However, this will require prior approval from <br />Traffic Engineer. <br />Flashing arrow signs shall be used on streets consisting of four or more lanes or where <br />deemed necessary by the City's Traffic Engineering section. The flashing arrow signs shall <br />be solar powered and left in place for the duration of the lane closure. <br />Temporary striping installation for traffic control shall be painted. <br />Any existing speed limit signs or other conflicting signs in the construction zone shall be <br />covered during construction with heavy duty black plastic (non -transparent) sheets or bags, <br />which are secured to the sign post below the sign, with tape. In no case shall tape be applied <br />to either front or back of any sign. <br />Intersections shall be kept open until work takes place within the intersection. Local <br />vehicular and pedestrian access, including access to driveways and businesses, shall be <br />maintained at all times. Pedestrian access (minimum 4-foot width) across both streets in an <br />intersection must be maintained at all times. <br />Where parking is prohibited during construction, "TEMPORARY NO PARKING" signs <br />shall be posted at least twenty-four hours, but no more than forty-eight hours, in advance <br />of the work. The signs shall be placed no more than 150 feet apart on each side of the <br />alleys, streets and parking areas and at shorter intervals if conditions warrant. The <br />Contractor shall provide the signs and will be responsible for adding the dates and hours <br />of closure to the signs. <br />No adjacent parallel street shall be constructed concurrently. <br />
