CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br />AVENUE <br />substrate up to and coincident with the cut edge of the sign panel shall be sufficient <br />basis for rejection of the entire sign panel. <br />All treatment tanks and/or spray -applied systems must be performed on the <br />contractor premises, to ensure proper adhesion of reflective sheeting materials. All <br />treatment tanks or spray -applied systems shall be charged with fresh chemicals at <br />least once a year. If pretreatment is performed by immersion methods, the tanks <br />must be sufficient size to accommodate the complete panel. Titration equipment <br />shall be available for the inspectors to check the solutions strengths. The cleaned <br />and coated base metal shall be handled only by a mechanical device or by operators <br />wearing clean cotton or rubber gloves. After cleaning and coating operations, the <br />panels shall be protected at all times from contact or exposure to grease, oils, dust <br />or other contaminates. <br />The front and back surfaces of the aluminum base metal shall be cleaned, <br />deoxidized, and coated with a light tightly adherent chromate conversion coating <br />free of any powdery residue. The base metal pretreatment process shall be in <br />conformance with Section 5, "Recommended Processing methods" of ASTM <br />Designation B-449. The coating weight shall be 30-100 mg/sq.ft. (285-950 <br />mg/sq.m.), A class 1 coating. <br />2. Sign Message and Reflectorized Material: <br />Sign panels with identical legends shall be displayed on both sides of the sign frame <br />unless otherwise indicated. <br />Letter size, style, spacing, arrows, and figures shall conform to the current standards <br />established by Caltrans. <br />a. The legends or street name shall be 8" (200 mm) upper case and 6" (150 mm) <br />lower case. Series D shall be used. <br />b. Street suffixes and block number will be 4" (100 mm). Series D shall be used. <br />c. 1" (27 mm) border. <br />d. Message layout shall be per attached drawing. Side margins and spacing may <br />be compressed when necessary to stay within sign length. <br />3M Diamond Grade DG3 Series 4000 or equivalent shall be used on both fore and <br />background with anti -graffiti overlay that has UV inhibitors. The standard color <br />shall be white legends, letters, borders, etc., on a screened green background. <br />No cut out legends, letters or border shall be used. <br />Signs shall have graffiti coating or film (such as 3M 1160 Overlay) with UV <br />inhibitors as recommended by the manufacturer of the reflective material. Neither <br />the color nor the reflective intensity of the finished sign panel shall be significantly <br />diminished by the use of graffiti remover when used in a manner approved by <br />Caltrans and the sheeting manufacturer. <br />73 <br />
