CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />SPECIFICATIONS <br />PROJECT NO.: 25-6030 <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT SEGERSTROM AVENUE AND ROSEWOOD <br />AVENUE <br />3. Sign Frame & Panel Construction: <br />The width or the sign shall be 18" (450 mm). Length to be determined by the text <br />and shall not be less than 48" (1200 mm) or more than 96" (2400 mm). <br />a. Frames: <br />The frame shall be aluminum channel extrusion, 1.25" x 1.25" x. 125" (35 x 35 <br />x 3 mm) wall thickness. Alloy 6063-T5. All joints of the aluminum channel <br />shall be welded with an inert gas shielded -arc welding process using 4043 <br />electrode filler wire in accordance with good shop practice. The width of the <br />filler wire shall be equal to the wall thickness of the channel being welded. <br />The top of the frame will have two 2" x 2" x .250" (53 x 53 x 6 mm) wall <br />thickness channel members welded and fastened to the frame with stainless <br />steel bolt, washer, lock nuts and cotter pins. The adjustable swing assembly <br />will be attached to these members. <br />b. Assembly: <br />A sign panel shall be fastened to both sides of the channel frame to make a <br />double-faced unit. Each sign panel must be a continuous sheet, no vertical or <br />horizontal splices to make up one panel. <br />The sign panels shall be affixed to the frame with 3/16" (5 mm) diameter blind <br />pop rivets, alloy 5052, or a type approved by the City. They must be aluminum <br />approved. The exposed face of the rivet shall be of similar shade and <br />compatible with face color of the finished sign. The rivets shall be placed <br />through the face of the sign with the wall of the channel placed against the back <br />of the sign panel. Rivets shall be placed no closer than 1/2" (13 mm) from the <br />edge of the sign panel and a maximum of 8" (200 mm) apart from one another. <br />All rivets must penetrate the web of the channel frame for proper grip strength <br />between sign panel and frame. <br />The swing hinge is attached to the 2" x 2" (53 x 53 mm) channel member with <br />a 1/4" (7 mm) stainless steel bolt and bronze bushing, and then secured with any - <br />lock nut. <br />4. Mounting Assemblies: <br />The top of the sign frame shall have two free swinging mounting brackets. They <br />shall be of all aluminum, bronze, and stainless steel parts. The 5" (125 mm) long <br />stainless steel bolt for fine adjustments shall have nuts and lock washers, or self- <br />locking nuts and cotter key. Dampening springs are required. The bracket <br />assembly shall permit the sign to swing perpendicular to the support hardware. <br />
